Bliz poor wages to its employees

Its known already for quite a time that Blizzard doesnt pay enough or even a living wage to its employees and that still hasnt changed at all.
I wont buy OW2 until there is an official announcement that will start paying better.
Do not think buying OW2 will ensure better payments, working for Blizzard is a “privilege”.

When someone at blizzard works well and overtime, they get honor points for wow?
No, any reward should be in money, not honor points or mounts. Its up to the employee to decide were to invest that money.

Are Blizzard employees leaving the company in droves for better paying jobs? No? Then by their own inaction, they are showing that this is the best employment they can get for the skills they have to offer.

That is because no company in the gaming industry in LA pays well.

They basically keep salaries low, and working hours and pressure high.

It is all about pushing games out as quickly and cheaply as possible, which I get to a point. But it comes at the detriment of game quality sadly.

It’s not easy to just up and leave a job and get another. There is a downtime between jobs, for example, and that can hemorrhage your bank account if you don’t have money saved up. On top of that, the market for a video game designer/programmer, etc may not be the hottest right now given every company is trying to cut costs.

Most businesses tend to work that way to pay the least amount of wages to maximize profits. Not saying it’s the right thing to do, but it literally is the case for almost all businesses.

Who forces those employees to stay in LA? If so many of them make working in LA their priority over earning better wages, then earning those wages is the consequence of their decision.

Plus, if their skills are indeed not transferable to other employment, so that they are forced to remain working in the gaming industry: It is their responsibility to acquire better marketable skills.

Usually, one looks for a new job while still employed. Also, moving isn’t prohibitively expensive.

Indeed, most low-paid employees in IT are very young and young people are the most mobile cohort within the workforce. If they do not wish to move, then they have to improve their skill set and thus their market value. Alternatively, they would have to transfer their skills into another, often initially lesser-paid market which they expect to be more sought after. IT security comes to mind, as does cloud services, data analytics etc.

Most employees who are not mobile are so because they own a home they bought too early and the market value of which is well below their book value. If they don’t want to eat their losses, then staying where they are is the price they thus have decided to pay. If this does not apply and you are just renting, 99% you have no excuse. And I am confident saying that as I am living on a continent where language changes with educational certificates as well as with industrial regulations every thousand miles.

None of this is unfair. In fact, it’d be unfair if it were otherwise.

Why have I never heard about payment problems from people who actually work at Blizzard?

In a lot of industries they have clauses in contracts to say they can’t publicly discuss salaries, even with outside sources (usually with a close family member caveat).

It is a simple clause companies use to try and stop wage inflation through competition. The theory being if no one knows they are underpaid, why would they complain…

You’re absolutely right OP, we need to reduce all Blizz employee wages by 90% until they actually balance the game. Now you may think that is an impossible task but if they hire some chimpanzees, the increase in IQ may be the most effective solution. I will happily sign your petition. ^^

You have a point but when you start working at omg Blizzard and you think with time and a lot more effort you will be paid better.
But no matter what, there is no excuse to pay under living wage.
There are Blizzard employees that are paid under living wages and the work benefits are ingame stuff.
When you become a GM, on the first day they let you know how replaceable you are.
I hate Blizzard and J. Allen Brack, not the employees.
Too many talented employees left thats why Blizzard is falling.

Yes there is: Any employer has the right to offer any wage they deem adequate. Any employee has the right to decline such a wage. If the employee acceptsit, he/she shows that all things considered, that employer is offering them their most attractive option. The employer then has every excuse to pay that wage.

Which would be the proper consequence, along with the decline of products and thus sales, if wages were too low. However, how do we know that “too many talented employees left”?

Blizzard is doing very well, with $1.79 bln revenues in Q1 2020 and $1.93 bln in Q2.

That is not a leak, that is a labour group lobbying for unionisation using highly selective but still nebulous claims. Asmondgold, who presents those claims, imho inadvertently shows how disingenous they are:

He complains that Blizzard’s board of directors, who manage the business of that multi-billion company, earn salaries in the millions while lowest-skilled employees find it hard to make ends meet. Which sounds unfair only until you stop emotionalising and instead start thinking about it.

Asmongold sarcastically remarks that “I’m sure (the remaining employees) are all compensated (for taking up responsibilities for those let go)”. Haha, of course evil Blizzard will burden the reamining employees even harder. But in the very next sentence he reads that employees work fewer, not more overtime hours - complaining that they consequently receive less overtime pay. So, which is it?

He reads how some employees left for rival companies. Things must really be bad at Blizzard. Right next, he reads about how those who choose to stay find it hard to make ends meet. The more reasoning viewer might ask why they choose to stay if matters are that dire but an alternative is available.

About paying a “living wage”: Those employees who accept such a wage thus show that this is the best of the options they have for the skills they have to offer. If they want to earn more, then they have to improve their skill sets and thus their market value - if not at Blizzard, then at other employers. Conversely, complaining how unfair the world is might provide emotional release; but it does not lead down a path to higher productivity.

That Blizzard grants its employees game tokens I also find not out of the ordinary. My employer, like many others, did something similar to keep us using and thus staying acquainted with our products. As any company which does so, they legally had to list this as employee compensation so it was taxed accordingly. In our case, the practice stopped when government taxes and deductions rose too high.
