Blizzard, pls add more national flags in “player icons”

I’m actually in confuse why there is only a small amount of national flags.
In my opinion this could help to find teammates and friends from same country.
This would be very helpful feature.
Please just create one tab with all flags in “player icons” section.

The answer is fairly straight forward.

Licencing.

Some countries do not give people the licence to use their flags in games. I believe they have said they would all be there, if they were allowed.

Licencing for flags in games??? Never heard about this.
Anyway where actually I can find the information if I’m allowed to use flag of selected country in my game?

Honestly, I couldn’t find the list. But they have said about it a few times in Q&A’s and other games have the same issue.

This game I guess got all the flags of the world and I don’t believe they asked every country of the world about permission to use their flags in the game xD

trackmania is not a triple A game, also i think some flags are a violation for being in it, yet they don’t take action because it’s probably not on their radar.

just because something exists doesn’t mean it exists legally.

FIFA from EA sports is also not triple A game? I know that there are not all national football teams, but when you start the career you can choose the nationality of your manager/player. All countries with flags are represented there.

That is because FIFA (the football governing body) has the licence.

It is the same way racing games can use teams liveries and their sponsors. The FIA gives Codemasters the right to used all the F1 teams liveries. So Codemasters don’t have to seek permission from individual teams/sponsors because they have already signed that right away by signing up for the championship.

So, if Blizzard got a deal to have a FIFA backed tournament, then that would probably open the door to them having all the flags. But that isn’t going to happen.

However Trackmania’s example is still exists so many years already without any troubles. And I can’t say this is not popular game. Some streamers have 600-700 viewers on their streams. Even if any country will make a complaint - the developers will just remove one flag from the game. I don’t think they will actually get any punishment for using of national flags…
