Brainstorming Rein+Zarya counters

In dive meta 2 tanks ruled, in the current one also 2 tanks rule. I’ve noticed more and more that even if the team with Rein+Zarya doesn’t have Brigitte they are still much better than any other tank combination the enemy team can muster.

So, counters?

Potential counters:

Roadhog
Unfortunately I’d say he doesn’t counter them at all. D.Va+Winston were easy to hook and easy to kill because their healers were behind. Rein+ Zarya have all the tools to stop the hook, protect each other and rely on their healers so no, he cant do much.

Reaper
Reaper is straight up bad. Apart from his ultimate rushing down the enemy team is the last thing he wants to do. So he does nothing most of the time because the Rein+Zarya compositions are very tightly packed together.

Hanzo
Here is the deal with Hanzo - while he has the damage to break shields and kill tanks he also enables them thanks to his ultimate. I’d say he is not a counter because he also boosts the this particular tank duo’s capabilities.

Pharah
She could be one. Unfortunately her damage is slow, she seems to be the kind more suited for killing squishies, not taking care of shields and tanks. A Mercy can keep the tanks alive easily.

Zenyatta
Could be one too. With less flankers around he can concentrate on breaking shields and he counters the grav.

Overall I think the best counter is…another Rein+Zarya. You got a shield to stop the shatter, you got a grav for a counter team wipe, you can easily take advantage of the assured Hanzo on your team.

So what do we do now, wait for a new hero which counters this to come out?

Hanzo with a zen and a mercy can melt tanks. Thats why the are most picked atm.
Other dps aswell with this support duo but hanzo has it easy.

I would suggest running Mei and Reaper as dps against Reinhardt+Zarya. Mei can easily separate Reinhardt from Zarya and his healers, making him an easy target for Reaper. (I’m sorry my fellow Reinhardt players…)

You can also bring Dive if the enemy as you said doesn’t have a Brigitte. Reinhardt and Zarya were almost none existent back when Dive was played every single match for a reason. There’s also Pharmercy or any ranged heavy comp like getting 2 snipers.

Widow is not good at taking down shields, perhaps this is the reason her pick rate dropped, she cant really be a good partner for Hanzo.

Far as Mei goes - she only works on choke points like the ones on Hanamura and Gibraltar, otherwise her wall is extremely hard to separate anything. Not to mention how easy it is for Zarya to protect herself and whoever Mei focuses.
