Just one request. Bring back OW1 please, it was the best and balanced game ever, in my point of view. I’m not saying to eliminate OW2, you can still play with it and do random decisions. But just bring back OW1. As there are COD 1 2 3 … 100, Half life 1 2, and tons of others games with newer versions, they never eliminate the original ones. We can still play those old games. There are people who prefer old games than the new versions. I suggest bringing back OW1, leave it as it is without the new characters for example and with the latest patch, but don’t replace it… I’m sure tons of people will be back to OW if you do so :).

Be cause it is free to play. But is it appreciate it? Just look at the difference ranking between OW 1 and OW 2. More than 90% liked OW1. Barely 50% likes OW2…

ow2 lacks two things that OW1 had: a sense of collecting while playing (now everything is excessively monetized) and optimism for the lore. But in terms of “live game serivce set to change as new features arrive as they increase”… it’s stayed the same. and indeed, paradoxically we are better off than that shameful development pause: a live service game must be constantly updated.
And I say this because OW1 has ALWAYS changed too, contrary to what people remember: the double puick eliminated shortly after the first season, Ana 1.0 completely broken, the defender class eliminated, etc.
The only thing that could seriously make blizzard? HOMAGE the early years of OW1. on the anniversary, instead of making sterile gamemode rotations in the arcade, we could make “vintage” modes in which you can play an old balancing version of the game. There can’t be a future for a live service game that remains anchored to the past, but it’s also true that a little trip into the past is sometimes fun.
And people will claim that increase is “only because F2P”… Yes that helps. But if the game was awful and the monetisation was horrific, it wouldn’t be doing that while more than doubling expected revenues.
Well if there still even was Overwatch 1, OW2 wouldn’t have that many players. I play OW2 only because OW1 is not playable anymore. If it were, I would ditch OW2 in a heartbeat!
Another good reason not to have both. The Devs need to stick with the game they want to work on.
It has to be one or the other. And for it to be 1 someone has to prove there is a better business case for it than 2. It’s the only way they’ll entertain it.
You can’t say most of the people prefers OW2 over OW1. Just look at the review at ING, Metacritic. Just write on google “Overwatch review”, and it’s evidence that most people preferred OW1 over OW2. OW1 had much better reviews and was once the best game of the year. While OW2 is one of the worst game in history of steam now (score 1.71, 250,330 votes)… come on its facts, it’s statistics of thousands of people reviewing. It’s not because there are more people, it means that it’s better.
Anyway, OW1 or OW2 better, that’s another topic, and it’s a matter of taste.
What I suggest, is to bring it back alongside OW2. Again, I’m not saying to eliminate OW2, but just to bring back OW1 as a playable old game. As you can play Super Mario odyssey, you can still play Super Mario bros deluxe.

A lot of players have never touched OW1.
I wish people would get over steam reviews. It’s simple, do you like game. If yes, play. If no, don’t play. Don’t worry about what others think, and don’t let others views cloud your own personal judgement.
For me. If OW1 returned tomorrow and they turned off OW2. I wouldn’t bat an eyelid. I enjoyed OW1 for what it was, I enjoy OW2 for what it is.
The fact that ow2 has more players is great, the fact that it’s beating financial targets handsomely is great. Just means the game is going to stick around.
I think people possibly get a little too emotional, or maybe blinkered. “Bring back OW1 because I preferred it”. Which is great. Many will agree. It will have to be F2P with the same monetisation as OW2 or it will just die. all you have to do is look at games like Avengers for how badly not being F2P on a live service game can go.
Agreed OP! Game preservation is important. And right now I’d say OW2 is a sufficiently different experience compared with OW1 that we can truly call them separate games. Which is all the more reason to bring back the original Legacy OW1!
OW2 got slated, and still is. It is no where near as what OW was. Bring back OW, and start developing the PvP with some terrible store front for monetization with some BattlePass. Job done.
Just bring back OW1 please. And if you need money, do new skins that you only get by buying them and that’s it. I don’t see the point of OW2, especially now you are making the DLC characters for free… It’s just a mess!
Bring back OW1 please and put it aside with its old updates. And you can do whatever you want with OW2 at the same time. There will be people playing OW1 and people playing OW2, and everyone is happy.
Which is fair. I don’t care what the forums says. 5v5 is better.
But the big things, what do the devs want to do. If they wanted to do 6v6, we’d have it.
It is a nice idea. But it wouldn’t work. They don’t have the staff to keep 2 games updated, and won’t pay for the extra servers needed.
As always… what is the business case… because now, OW2 has everything OW1 had, except you can just buy what cosmetics you want, rather than gamble for them.
I assume you are a new player, because heroes have always been free. It was OW2 that changed that and pretty much everyone complained about it. So they’ve (eventually) fixed it.
yay double shield was so fun to play with or agaisnt…(just one exemple of many prob ow1 had) and no one played OW1 at the end go see the charts and stats. the 5v5 is a great idea. you dont like it ok. but dont speak for “the poeple” tyvm i love OW2 and will never stop playing as long as there are serv online bb have a good game
