Bringing Overwatch to the next level: Loadouts

By loadouts I don’t mean different weapons and sidearms like in TF2. Or extensive customization the way cards in Paladins work. More like making a character more flexible by choosing and switching between one of two options.

Torb is actually perfect for an example. Suppose you had two loadouts for him, one which is more inclined towards his turret and one which is more about his gun and sustained damage with the turret being a distraction.

This will not only present more variety, it’ll also at least partially solve the switching problem. Suppose someone starts with turret Torb on 2cp defense but his team gets rolled. He switches to the more gun oriented loadout because his turret cant deal with the pressure. It might not be as effective as switching to a new character but it’ll still count as changing the composition and trying to help. It’ll also be one way to deal with counters without, again, having to switch your character completely.

Hell, imagine this, at some point of time a third loadout is added to the character, one which brings back the armor packs and turns him into more of a support oriented DPS. Endless possibilities without the constant need of reworks and gamplay changes to something we are already used to.

Now, how the loadouts could be implemented? I have no clue. But hey, why not, the way the game is going with only new characters/maps to look forward to maybe after OW has been out for years and it has already become stale Blizzard could try something different. Or it can happen in Overwatch 2, I don’t know.

It’s an idea, but I think it may be too complicated for casual players. I think the issue is that there are abilities that there are only one response to, basically what you are trying to solve, but I think a better solution is a larger hero pool. If you had three dps, three tanks, and three supports who could all mitigate discord orb, for example, you wouldn’t have to pick Zarya against a comp that relies on discording a target.

Yea, basically the above. Having two different loadouts for every character quickly makes the game complicates.
