Why can’t their spread be in a fixed pattern? That way, they can have more consistent damage.
Because a shotgun isn’t consitent, just like any other gun with spread shots. Concistency is determined by the distance of your target.
It also defies the purpose of spread shots: probability of a sucessfull hit.
And it also has consequences: If shotguns have a pattern, then players will demand a pattern for assault guns, too.
so you basically want more one shots?
Yes, please! Pattern! I want all my guns to use a Smiley pattern so nobody feels bad about getting killed anymore!
Who needs “shot” when we can just call it “guided pellets” and spread happiness - literally?
they would have to nerff other aspects. consistency is a buff
Consistency in a shooter is expected–even for shotguns
You think it’s okay to ‘roll the dice’ as a hero in Overwatch?
Doomfist was changed because his M1 was inconsistent and it felt bad. D.Va and Roadhog have both have primaries adjusted to increase pellet count but reduce pellet damage.
Reaper has been left out to dry by the devs. There are sometimes MASSIVE holes in his shotgun spread… to the point that killing a training dummy from 10m can take anywhere from 2 to 4 shots, which in a competitive environment (ruled by fast heroes and snipers) isn’t fair.
Soldier always fires the first 5 pellets straight down the centre. His spread thereafter is balanced, but he has consistency to work with.
Doomfist has around 10 pellets that NEVER get too close to one another.
Mei fires straight. Hanzo’s arrows never veer off. Tracer starts with a tight spread which expands evenly. Same with Sombra now. Genji…
Genji… somehow throws THREE PERFECT SHURIKENS in succession EVERY SINGLE TIME. And his ALT FIRE throws THREE AT ONCE… at a FASTER RATE OF FIRE… and they always fire in a perfectly horizontal line.
[edit: My mistake.]
Shoot a Sentry from 10-15m with Reaper and it can take four or five shots. It feels crap.
All Blizzard would have to do (and it’s a big ask, I know) would be to have two clusters of pellets for his primary fire (that both fired at once–giving the impression of one ‘bullet’:
An inner cluster, of half his pellets, with a limited spread. And an outer cluster–again, half his pellets–which would spread wider earlier on. This would give him (and other shotgun users) some consistency around their cross hair whilst ALSO rewarding them for getting close and landing the outer cluster before the pellets had the time (range) to spread.
Shoot a blank wall from 10 with Reaper. Compare the bullet spread to his crosshairs and you’ll understand just how unintuitive and cheap it feels.
All Blizzard need to do is make it so that Roadhog and Reaper, etc, don’t fire pellets too close to one another, and make those pellets a good enough size.
Roadhog shoots BOLTS for crying out loud. There’s no way the pellet size should be the same as McCree’s or Tracers.
Random Spread sucks. And it especially sucks in Overwatch because currently getting INTO POSITION as Reaper is hard enough, let alone outplaying the Frontline Hanzo, let alone trying to break down Brigitte’s shield before she murders you or knocks you off a cliff, let alone being picked off by the map’s resident Widowmaker, let alone suffering the horrible Field of View limitations which make life for MELEE RANGE heroes (which Reaper effectively is) absolute hell.
Teleport is suicide. Wraith Form is better now but highly telegraphable. But it’s Reaper’s inconsistency against non-tank heroes that kills him. And that inconsistency comes from a terribly coded and badly designed bullet spread.
D.Va’s shotguns are actually not random. Roadhog’s shotgun is. I understand its because of 1 combo deaths and blah blah blah but aren’t we above this crap already? Widow and Hanzo are already one shotting people with ease.
Make Shotgun less RNG and give Shotgun Damage fall off.
Would make the shotgun more aim reliant and less luck + because of dmg fall off, still a shotgun, close range
sorry jez you simply wrote to much, so i will admit i read the head line and thats it, im not trying to be a dick. shoot’s all have intended inconsistency’s be it bullet spread be it shot gun spread be it scoped wobble an so on. in fact even just single shots often don’t go perfectly strait. in the first ghost recon for xbox i used to scope in to another sniper right on then without moving my cross hair i’d pull out my silenced pistol and one shot him from across the map with my pistol that did not giving away my position to other players. most games see this as un realistic and problematic.
Who cares?
The games not even related to any type of science or realistical thing in IRL.
inconsistency is part of the balance that’s the point.
So what you ACTUALLY mean to say is that it’s better to favor chance over accuracy?
I doubt that its meyoudodo’s argument.
You can balance a hero by tweaking their concistency.
Reaper, for example, does only consistent shots at close range. At long range, his shots get too much spreaded that it’s not worth to shoot at long range.
That inconsistency makes his weapon balanced. If the shots were consistent at long range, he’d be broken. Heck, imagine Tracers shots were consistent at long range.
its more then that hog for example, if he didn’t have random spread, you would know where to put the cross hair every single time after a hook for a one shot. as it is now, sometime you don’t always get the killing blow but you can.
so if hog hook did end 100% of the time with a one shot it would then be over powered and they would have to lower hog damage, so then it would never end in a one shot.
rng can be used to give a hero a strong advantage…some times, just not all the time, if it was to consistent it would be broken.
genji can attack from long ranges and did you try to kill a turret with reaper from 12 meters away?
also genji 2 shots ur turrets buddy
he does 28 damage per shuriken soo it takes 2 of them to kill 1 turret
ah yes your right, he can shoot from long range, with no damage fall off even, dang i forgot about that. during a team fight sitting way back and trying to snipe sym with some of the slowest projectiles in the game, i’ am sure you are going to get your weight in value before your team is all dead cus it was a 5 v 6 wile you where sniper genji.
ohhh your right you can one shot turrets as well, tho did you know that he as a 1 second fire rate? so lets say you got the first one right away well, to we have to factor in time to aim and projectile travel time, so maybe not rightaway, witch matters when you are talking about fractions of a second, so you shot one and before you can even shoot again 2 others are already there, as you try to shoot them sym is now firing on you… but hey man just get good what do i know right.
