You don’t. You can only control what you do. If I’m surrounded by racists, I leave, and report them to the relevant people on my way out.
Same applies for ow, if it was so bad I felt the need for something utterly ridiculous. Then I’d report those players and walk away.
But, that sort of player is pretty rare in my experience. People just tend to not want to talk in game any more.
Some will say that because punishments are quick and harsh. And if that’s the case, use that tool to get rid of these horrific people from the community. Also if you’re friends or in a small community with them, and you don’t tell them to stop or use the tools try make them… Then you’re part of the problem too.
“Avoiding” won’t do anything other than pass the problem on I someone else. Just burying your head in the sand.
So instead of using the ignore feature, you leave game, ruining it for everyone else in the game. That says a lot about you.
Why would I ignore racism. I report it to do my bit to get rid of those scumbags from the game.

I’ve said, like anything, if it was that bad I’d report the relevant people and walk away from the game. That’s the game a whole not a singular match. Just to clear that you as you seem to be jumping to a conclusion of your own making.
Same applies with my Villa season tickets. If there was racism going on, they have systems to report it. If it was bad and nothing being done, I’d return my season ticket and publicly say why and pass on all the information I have to the relevant authorities.
You don’t make friends with them, and I you don’t avoid them . You call them out using the proper channels and boycott the service til action is taken.

Luckily, sometimes unfortunately for some, they are very quick to act on reports for chat/behaviour so it’s not an issue in ow. I can just report and be content they won’t last long.
