Cheese is killing every game look at sc2 in the past with all the cheeses even in pro league like zealot rush, marine all in and even 6 pool.
Overwatch has the bastion cheese. A much lower skilled team has a chance to win with bastion comp. That is cheese. We all know about counter etc. but in solo q games arent this organised.
A more accurate definition of cheese in Starcraft 2:
A cheese strategy is simply a high risk/high reward tactic which aims to win a game with little strategic effort, and relies on the failure of the opponent to properly react. A cheese strategy will often leave the cheeser at a significant disadvantage should the cheese fail.
Perhaps the most popular example is the photon cannon rush, in which photon cannons are built in close proximity to the enemy base so that they can be used offensively. If spotted early, the cannon rush will likely fail and the defending player will have a significant economic advantage, exemplifying the high risk/high reward nature of cheese.
A cheese strategy does NOT necessarily take advantage of imbalances in the game, and most cheeses are easily countered if they are spotted early and there is adequate time to prepare (hence why many cheeses rely on poor scouting).
Cheese is often regarded as “cheap” or “dirty” play, as the player cheesing does not try to counter their opponent or adjust their strategy. “All-in” strategies are good examples of this.
Below are some more examples of cheeses. Note how each cheese strategy takes advantage of “common” flaws in the defending player’s build/strategy. If the flaw is not present, the cheese will likely be countered and lose:
But in Overwatch cheese is even more broken because you can simply switch heroes.so in overwatch it is low risk/high reward
pirate ship junkertown. (payload maps in general)Orisa Bastion comp. If bastion gets not killed it is a flawless victory for bastion and they just melt through the entire team and get the first point and even beyond that when your team is unlucky.
It is a quite simple and common strategy.
Nonetheless, not an uncounterable one: Genji can deflect Bastion’s bullets at the barrier and Bastion can be taken down with ease, from that point.
Before Bastion gets back to the payload, Symmetra or Torbjörn can set up a turret (or three, in Symmetra’s case).
If nothing else works, a similar combo of Reinhardt, Orisa or Winston and Bastion can be used to take down the enemy Bastion.
As for a solo action – if the team isn’t willing to communicate and listen too well – just try to pick a flanker and sneak around while Bastion is focused on your team. Sombra would be ideal for sneaking around, but I’m uncertain if she could damage Bastion fast enough.
you are not getting my point I know it is counterable etc. It is still cheese. A cheap strategy. Low Risk/High Reward. The team with less skill can win by that. Bastion is a cheap hero his whole kit is only cheese. He is a worse soldier76, but with the right comp a good cheese. even in OWL people just play him to cheese.
Actually, I disagree; Bastion is a very good flanker, while many people do not see it, his ultimate charge when using his recon weapon is the fastest in game, with that, he could quickly charge his ultimate, sneak behind enemy and in cover transform into a tank, while his team is playing very defensively and staying in cover as much as possible.
Even if one does not like his ultimate, his sentry configuration is still very good for flanking damage.
I am speaking of experience, since in one match I’ve met a really good flanking bastion, who killed off my teammates, and me, multiple times.
That’s easily counterable. If your argument is that it’s low risk just because they can just switch after dying you’re wrong. By switching after the opponents have farmed your entire team you’ve just lost the ultimate economy and given the opponents a considerable advantage. In high MMR this could cost a game
It is still low risk/high reward this is why even the pros play this cheese sometimes.
“in high mmr this could cost a game” - ur argument is overdramatic. In other games you lose immedietly when you try to cheese, in overwatch not and it is even more frustrating when a team who is worse win through that. bastion cheese comp is extra effective in solo q, because there is no Igl and people there get heated/stressed faster
And sometimes the pros played Brigitte even when she was relatively weak because some teams tended to start with D.va/Winston dive comp which she countered effectively. If the opponents didn’t start this way like they usually did the opponents would then be at a disadvantage. Risk and reward.
Besides other games are irrelevant as there isn’t really games you can compare to Overwatch gameplay and design -wise. Even if something’s good in another game it might be really bad in Overwatch. As far as the developers are concerned they’ve designed the game to have space for all sorts of teamcomps and 2-2-2 doesn’t win everytime. If you don’t think it’s good then that’s just your opinion that differs from the devs and majority of the playerbase. You’re unreasonable if you think that you can expect things to work against their own design policies or that it’s bad that they don’t.
Bastion is in my opinion still a cheap cheese strategy. When you know you have no chance to beat the enemy team you try bastion comp and you can win. One mistake from the enemies and you drive by them and get the first point. faster is impossible because you sit on the payload most of the time.
If you get off your elitist high horse for a moment you would know that even in Gold Bastion has pretty much the lowest pick rate in Comp and there is a reason for that. He can work in the occasional game but he is usually NOT a great pick.
If i had a dollar for every game that i played that was ruined because someone switched to bastion at the last minute, i could buy the entire blizzard company.
