Hello. I’m returning to the game since leaving around 2018 and I started playing comp again. I think the overall game itself is a lot of fun. I’m a bit confused conceptually about the changes to points gained/lost via the modifier system. I don’t remember the climb being this bad in the past. I’m curious what prompted this change and if they really think this is better. Also wondering what the general feelings are on it. From my experience so far I’ve had a lot of games where I’ve gotten less points for wins than I do losing points from losses. I even had an 8 win streak at one point that wasn’t enough to go up a single tier bracket in silver. It seems a bit much for being this low. It doesn’t help that I don’t really know when a modifier will/won’t be relevant so it feels a bit like gambling at the end of it all. I’m not particularly angry about it, I’m moreso really confused. Maybe my memory isn’t great, but back then I didn’t think the rank system was a pressing issue. Coming from other games as well, I’ve never seen a ranked system so unsure of its own formula and goals. Curious what you all think.
If you’ve not played since 2018… the removal of any performance related “bonuses” is probably why it feels so odd if guess.
It’s now all about doing what’s needed to win. Rather than “look at me I’m the bestest”.
The modifiers are just to do with your MMR companies to the lobby and adjusting you accordingly. Which is why if you watch high ranked players, they often get “expected” when they win. It’s because their MMR is higher than the average in the lobby (due to low numbers at the highest ranks like champion).
My advice will always be, ignore the rank. Play because you enjoy playing, work to improve as you go along and your rank at the end of the season will be what it will be.
Ppl used to play a few games get the Top 500 placement and then just never play with that account anymore. They would even do it with multiple accounts so the list was like:
Dude#1
kdKing
Dude#3
Dude#2
…
Now you have to be active and fight for your title. Honestly I never made it that high up, but its a good change for folks that want to and deserve to fight for the title.
