Could Role Specific Queues Help The Game?

My thoughts on competitive is that a role specific queue could enable a better competitive experience. I think it should be based around the standard 2-2-2 (and possibly have a primary and secondary desired role with the inclusion of the ability to “fill”). With this system teams would still have the option to play other comps such as GOATS, but would make for a more consistent gameplay experience. I’m not sure how much worse this would make queue times but I personally am willing to wait an extra minute or two if that means I don’t get into a 4 DPS comp game.

These problems can already be solved by waiting in an LFG lobby instead of solo queuing.

While having a 2-2-2 composition without role lock seems good on paper it doesn’t really work with random players. I know this because I’ve used LFG a lot to recruit teams both for QP and comp. In case of QP people stay only for 1 match in most of the cases (which means mostly random players in every match) and without locking the roles all sorts of bad things can happen. In case of recruiting a team for comp I don’t lock the roles but I perform more rigorous check on players verbally and by inspecting their profiles. Another difference is that in case of comp serious climbers want to stay for streaks of matches given that the team is good enough for an above 50% win rate which means more trust and the possibility of kicking bad players from the next match in case of issues.

BTW, the “role queue” issue is raised quite often so using forum search gives a lot of results: Search results for 'role queue' - Overwatch Forums AND Search results for 'role queue' - Overwatch Forums

Or here is another post on the same topic posted recently on this forum: Are we gonna get a soft-role queue soon?
