Crossplay Toggle

Hey, i understand that crossplay toggle exists on console for people who are not comfortable with playing against people with Keyboard & Mouse (or maybe even PS vs Xbox).

It also serves the purpose to provide the ability to those people to find matches faster than when it is turned off.

However, why there is no such option on PC?
I, for once want to play the game without the flood of the console players on both teams. And the separation is not even the same, enemy team might have 2 console DPS players, while my team will have a tank and a support.

And when you play against a “true” console player, there is literally no issue of just stomping them without any hesitation, but then comes the sneaky one, with no observable console joystick pull while aiming, snapping between targets, and just in general, really accurate player.

And may be, they are, but i had a gold challenger in the opposite team, who literally did more damage and had more kills than any one on either team.

So the question is, why there is no such toggle on the PC?

And couple of notes:

  1. I do have an Xbox, i am not REALLY good at it, so i only play OW when i am a bit tired of sitting straight.
  2. Having crossplay for those who are really only playing with the joystick is unfair to them, as K&M will always be better (but it is their choice after all)
  3. Having crossplay for those who are using the third party hardware is not really fair to anyone, but why then should PC players suffer from the same plague?
  4. The main red flag is a Widow/Hanzo/Sojourn/Cass/Illiari with the crossplay icon under their name, you should pretty much always expect to get rolled

If you play on the pc, you get only queued up with pc players unless you’re grouped up with a console player, at which point you’re in the mixed queue.

Sadly some people attach a mouse and keyboard to console so they can beat other console players more easily.

As far as the crossplay feature exists on console, i’m uncertain of how it functions.
From what i’ve understood though, it merely means that you will be put into the mixed queue if the console queue doesn’t have enough players to make a match with.

Problem is, well for some it is not, i don’t have any friends playing Overwatch, so i always solo queue. Even for competitive matches.

And here is the most frustrating, but kinda not relevant to this topic, issue is that even when you solo queue, you might get queued against 3 or 4 stack (i know, wait till season 9), but this happens even in quickplay. Okay, it is relevant, i had a matchup against 4 console players on the other team.

So i doubt that there is a “solo on PC - no Console”. And i get it, it might not be me, it might be other duo who is PC + Console.

But hear me out, can i, like pretty please, just flip a switch and enjoy the chill games without the sweat, i am ready to wait, i don’t complain about queue times, as while waiting i can actually do some coding (that is what i like about every launch of the new game or expansion by Blizzard, i know exactly that i am going to have 2 to 3 hours of waiting in the queue before i can play).

I’m new and only playing quick play atm. There are no chill games in quick play it seems. Everyone is always shouting at everyone else.

Struggle, you get flamed.
Carry, you’re cheating.

the crossplay feature doesnt put you with mouse and keyboard people, unless they are using cheats on their console like xim.

Crossplay just means you arent only put with people on the same console as you, when i turn it off for me it says it will only look for people playing on the switch for example. If i’d get matched with pc people then i would have noticed a big difference in ability to aim.

Sounds like a pc problem , people have way less time to type on console lol. On console i can find some chill people rather quickly. i have had plenty of games where people were just emoting and messing around all the match. If you approach enemies and just crouch up and down a bit they tend to be friendly in quickplay. A few exceptions will try to shoot everything in sight even tho the rest of their team is friendly and telling them not to

Thing is, i am not concerned about playing with PC or PS while i am on Xbox, because i atmost play for 30 to 45 minutes on console, the rest of my play time i spend on PC (which is like 99 percent of my total played time).

There is no option to disable cross play on PC, just none, however there is an option to do this on console.

By this statement: “Sounds like a pc problem , people have way less time to type on console lol.” do you really suggest that whenever a person with a crossplay icon starts typing in chat that means that they are indeed using the device to spoof the controller while using keyboard and mouse? (it is a legit question as i am not even aware if there is a text-to-speech option available that allows for “faster” typing).

If that is true, then i might just make a macro on my mouse for such type of reports, so far, i had a pretty good “thanks for reporting” ratio while using the following:

“This is a console player who seems to be using the third party hardware device to spoof the gameplay while using Keyboard and Mouse. They still retain aim assist while enjoying the smooth aiming”

@SmallPackage

There are two options that could help you to smooth out the edges of pretty toxic quick play environment (not even talking about competitive):

  1. Just disable either (or even both) group and match chats
  2. Let it go, have fun, ignore the toxicity and only enjoy positive things being said

Last one is harder, however, to be honest there are not many good conversations you can have either way if you would like to stick to option two.

As for me, i am sticking with option two, i don’t flame other people for their hero picks, or typing “ez” every time something happens, but i do quite enjoy sending out replies to those who just can’t keep their ego at bay, something along the lines: “it must be hard for you when people don’t even know that you’ve participated, so you have to type it out, well, good for you, have a good day/evening/night”.

It harms nobody, but it sure as hell tilts those people even more.

That is because you are in purely pc lobbies on pc.

The only time you take part in a crossplay lobby on pc, is if you team up with a console player.

This. There is no crossplay on pc anyway unless you actively group up with people playing on console.

So i dont get the problem well, is it that you wish to play with a controller on pc without playing against people with mouse and keyboard? keyboard and mouse is the normally expected pc controls after all.

I am playing on PC, i am using Keyboard & Mouse, i always play alone - never team up with anyone.

Problem is, game does not care whether it is me, or other people who are teaming up with people playing on console.

So, if Player 1 on PC teams up with Player 2 on Console, they start to search for the game, and eventually they will find me.

What it leads to is that even though i do not want to play with Console players, i am forced to because someone else decided to do so.

What this toggle could look like on PC - you are only playing against those, who opted out to play with Console, those who don’t mind that, they can have the situation which we have right now.

And like the main issue i have with playing with + against Console players is that it is pretty bog standard that our player will just circle around someone trying to aim at them, and player on the opposite side will be somewhat of a top 500 Widow who will straight up just nuke the team walking out of spawn.

I don’t really see the issue. If it’s a low elo lobby, everyone will suck so…

If it’s high elo, most console players will be using Cronus or Xim devices anyway, so you won’t notice any difference.

But the problem is - you will, they will have everything i have as a PC player, and on top of that, aim assist turned up to 11 (just look at the amount of YouTube videos suggesting on how to “make your aim ungodly with those aim assist settings”)

They will not. Or at least they shouldn’t. They should only group in a mixed queue, unless there are not enough players in the mixed queue.
Which should not be the case as long as at least a 100 people play on the mixed queue.

If they are a console player using those devices, they are cheating. So if you see the cross play icon and someone playing like a pc player. Just report.

Agree with this.
Overwatch matchmaking was much better when queue times were up. The matches weren’t so one sided, and as you say, you can do some work on the side/research etc (y)

As of the time of this reply, Mixed Queue does not exist. A solo queue pc player gets put in Crossplay Lobbies at the same rate, if not less often than PC only lobbies. The problem is so bad that i had a stretch of 30 straight lobbies of crossplay ( left all but the backfilled lobbies in the character select screen to avoid penalty or playing crossplay ). Crossplay is a horrible experience when compared to a PC only lobby. Honestly it feels like playing on a TV with a high input latency. However, I have noticed that if I play a couple times in a row i notice it less and I adjust for it, but playing a PC only followed immediately by a crossplay lobby feels like lag even though you have a consistently low ping. At this point I’d rather have increased queue times if it meant I got to avoid these lobbies, which generally seems to be the only arguement against a Crossplay toggle for PC players. I tried posting on Reddit and users responded with “Crossplay doesn’t exist for PC players who solo queue”, so I think there is some general misconception about how crossplay works( or its existence entirely ). Could we please atleast get a “yeah its because of queue times” from the developer, just so I can say I DON"T CARE ABOUT QUEUE TIMES!
