Currently unfixable lag spikes

I have tried every tip I have found: turning off other programs, changing Wifi settings, adding programs like Haste or Outfox, even manually editing my computer’s inner files permanently. I’ve checked almost every forum, ask, hardware website or any other source. To top it off, no one else is experiencing any problems as far as I know, so I can’t convince them to help me out.

Literally, nothing works.

What’s worse is that every time I seem to fix something, two more problems somehow show up. I use a Wireless connection that runs great for all my other programs, but in Overwatch, the most recent problem is in the form of a Latency spike of 400 ping that lasts for about 5 minutes. It’s ruining my games and I have no idea when the next spike shows up; whether it be 10 minutes or 10 seconds apart.

I’ve already “quit” this game two times because of these problems. I don’t want to quit it again, likely permanently.

Please help me.

Hello Amateur,

Could you please run a WinMTR while playing the game? This might show us where the issue is.

Kind regards

Does this help?

Good morning Amateur,

Yes, this helps, because it shows two things:

  1. You are losing data within your ISPs network

and the response times are also quite high with 548 ms as worst in this example.
and 2.

The response time to your room is also quite high.
Are you connecting via cable or wireless to the router? If wireless please try a cable connection.

Kind regards

What’s your opinion?

I use wireless. Unfortunately, there’s no cable in the room, nor is there any way to connect to the main box without drilling a hole in the wall.

So I guess the answer would be to get a very long cable or invest in some other hardware.

Hello again Amateur,

That is unfortunate. The problem there is that we can’t really troubleshoot wireless connections because there are too many things that can influence them, even building structures. But what you could try is a) Power cycle your router, that might help and b) send your data to your ISP so that they could look into the data loss.

Kind regards

What’s your opinion?

Well, thanks for your help. At least now, I know how to move forward.

You are most welcome. Let me know how you are getting on.

Kind regards
