Custom style for the forums

Hello there!
I’ve made a simplified style for the forums.

List of changes:

  • removed additional information from the first post of each topic (view count, reply count, frequent posters, etc)
  • posts are wider, and the height of each post is reduced (due to reduced indentation), so you can see more posts at once and scroll less
  • topic navigation block floats near the right edge of the screen
  • removed the “Suggested topics” block at the bottom of each topic page
  • removed emoji
  • blue buttons under each post (link, report, reply) are gray and semi transparent (10%, opaque on hover)
  • like buttons under each post are gray and semi transparent (50%) too, heart icon is red if post is liked
  • post author name increased
  • minor changes (removed the OW logo from the background, removed the post edit counter, removed the name of the sub-forum under the topic title)

You can download it as a style for Stylish (an extension that allows you to make styles for sites), as a user script for Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey, or simply copy CSS and install it in any other convenient way.

Stylish for Chrome:

Stylish for Firefox:

Important:

  • style wasn’t tested on 4K screen, most likely it will work, but will be inconvenient to read
  • suggestions and bug reports are strongly welcomed

Add a dislike button. I really miss it.
oh and :ok_hand::triumph::100:

Unfortunately, it requires some server-side programming, not only styles.
I want it back too.

Hey Misaka,

Firstly the mocks you made updating the styles do look cool. It does bring more simplification to the eyes indeed. About increasing the width of the forums to take up 80 - 90% of your screen real estate, what if the guys using a really wide screen monitor, wouldn’t it become harder from a UX point of view to get your eyes to go all the way from left to right ?

Are you referring to seeing those player avatars all grouped up right at the top of the forum ? That is just to give you an idea about the kind of people that have been involved in the forums without having to go through the whole content.
It’s a brief summary .

I think the real reason to why they took off the dislike feature is because people would then abuse it to down vote a post they din’t agree with and then use the statement, “Yeah your post was down voted to oblivion for a reason”. It spews toxicity if anything, and doesn’t provide any constructive benefits to a discussion.
Hence it’s not about doing the extra work to add that feature, it’s the negatives that the feature created, and it did nothing positive.
