Developer Update: No New Events

The Dev update said they are not working on anything new for the events. And we are just supposed to take this. They say their working on ‘Balance’ changes Cough Cough Sym and Mercy are in a terrible state.

And I just think its lazy. Honestly are they just expecting us to sit there and take it?
It really feels like their just playing for the streamers. I stopped playing ow after last season because it was a mess and it hasn’t changed. I hoped that the Halloween event might have some weight after the backlash of Summer games but nope. Nothin’

Honestly feels like they don’t care anymore. And Well I don’t to be honest, haven’t played since last season but kept an ear out to see if anything might be interesting.

Sadly it feels like they don’t care.

Free content. When you purchased overwatch you did so knowing what content you would get. Everything added after that purchase has been free of charge and basically free dlc to your core game. For free. Why complain ? No one expect you to take anything. If you dont like it I’m sure theres another game for you out there. Have fun!

Well they just said they didn’t have the time to work on new stuff NOT that they don’t want to. It’s very difficult to satisfy every single player especially when all the content is free, Blizz don’t have to update anything and could just go down the season pass route instead but they opted against that.

Balance changes are a main focus because they stay active until they need to be adjusted again, event stuff only lasts for a few weeks then it’s gone till a year later. Why put all the focus in something that’s temporary, when there are balance or QoL improvements that are in greater need.

Lazy is not making any effort for updates at all. Take a moment to think about that.

Blizzard is essentially a business not a charity. Their devs have to satisfy business requirements first and the remaining resources (if any) can be used for something else.

The OW team has quite a bit more statistics on how different heroes are doing than you do, and they also have a pretty good idea on how they intend heroes to be played. So if they are happy with where Mercy and Sym are today, they’re obviously being played the way the designers intended, and at the level they intended.

And honestly, new mini games? Who cares? I bought the game to play Overwatch.

The developers stated that they were going to continue making free content for the game which means that that was a factor for people buying the game. New skins isn’t content

And they are ? We just got a new map 14 days ago and a new hero not long before that. Also making that statement isnt like a binding contract. IF they wanted to seize further development they could. They wont obviously because as stated earlier in this thread it’s a business. And when you have more than 30 million customers you’re gonna forge while the iron is hot.

They are releasing new maps and heroes fairly often. And yes, skins are content. If you can see or hear it it’s content.

That’s not up to the industry standards, have you even played other competitive games, even blizzard ones? People have the right to be displeased with the updates lacking in quantity and quality.

Ofcourse not and as I said its not gonna happen like that, but people should stop viewing blizzard as anything else than a business. And feeling so entitled is not the way to go.

I dont see the relevance but yes I have about a 1000 hours in comp.

Yes they certainly do, but what makes them think I wanna hear about it? if they dont have a constructional point with their post other than moan, it’s not worth the forums time. Which is a general problem in here.

I disagree, I think people are entitled to their opinion and it helps gaming as a whole. Remember the EA fiasco? if people didn’t complain about the way they were handling the game’s economy and specifically the loot boxes, nothing would have been changed.

I do agree that full “power to the people” isn’t the way to go, there has to be a balance. But saying people aren’t entitled to anything and should just accept the companies decisions and ideologies isn’t either.

I never said people aren’t entitled to their opinion, but I’m questioning the importance of writing about it in here. Unless you have questions, ideas and your objective is to move something. Be it your own perspective or someone else. The definition of a debate basically.

But people are not looking for movement in any direction. They just want to shout out their complaints and be heard. The end. There for it’s not relevant or constructive which in my opinion should be the standard for any post in here.

I do remember the EA fiasco but you’re comparing two very different things. The EA fiasco was a total and complete disaster, where blizzard on the other hand manage to get more and more customers every year. Their games are of high quality and generally well received. This is facts no matter what you or I personally think about it.

I believe the whole ethical aspect of lootboxes etc is a slippery slope and I feel very strongly about it . I think we as customers really need to set the standard here, but I also think blizzard is one of the better companies regarding this practice because they do not sell pay to win loot. It is exclusively cosmetic (in overwatch anyway) . I’m not saying they are Angel’s but I dont see anything nearly as bad as the EA debacle.

And lastly I think people should always stand up for themselves and their ideas. But in business you do that by taking your money somewhere else. That is also the best way to “hurt” them in any case.

Halloween event is the best there is and Im glad they haven’t changed it. Summer games is boring, yes but the balances they’re currently making are making the game much more healthy.

I was using the lootbox issue with EA as an example of something that if the community didn’t shout their complains about, there would be no changes. It was an example, not the point itself, I never meant to enter a discussion about it, neither was I saying that Blizz was as bad as EA, we didn’t reach that point thankfully.

I do understand where you’re coming from, this forum has so many posts that aren’t helpful and are basically random rants, but this one for example despite not being in depth has a valid reason of concern. I made a post regarding it that received a bunch of likes and views on it which was basically this but with in depth comparisons showing why the development of OW doesn’t meet the standards, even when compared to other blizzard games, unfortunately for some reason the post was deleted without any warning whatsoever.

It’s still up on Reddit if you want to check that out. I won’t link here because they will just delete my comment like they did before. This is another thing that’s not okay, I didn’t break any rules, I simply stated a bunch of facts and simple opinion, quantity and quality are at a all time low and don’t meet the standards, there was no reason to delete the post, it was good valid feedback.

Usually I’d agree with taking your money somewhere else to make a statement, but not in videogames, simply because there are situations like OW where the gameplay is really good and really fun, it’s just missing on everything else. There’s a more extreme example of this, Street Fighter 5, the gameplay is really good, but everything surrounding it is absolute trash, they fixed some stuff like the loading screens, the netcode is way better than it was at the beginning too, people literally teleported all over the place. The community was 100% outraged about it but they didn’t let go off the game, they just shout out their concerns, some people even went too far, there were law suits involved just to prove points and memes insulting “crapcom” being thrown around left and right on the forums and reddit, but I mean, things are looking better for that game, they actually started to solve stuff because of how the community reacted.

Hopefully you’ll get what I’m trying to say here. Even if it’s something small, if it’s a valid concern I really believe people should make their voices heard.

I really appreciate this discussion, you two actually having one instead of a fight

I may have missed what the discussion started with, as in what specific parts you’re unhappy with, but it feels like it’s content and balance mainly? Or something else?

SF5 was riddled with bugs. There weren’t any different views to take on this. That’s different from the developer having a different vision, and different priorities. Which is what I feel this is about.

We have Overwatch League, where people expect quality. We have the Overwatch world cup. We have everyone crying about how OP hero XY is.

They have a limited number of employees. And with the lootbox discussion may have some budget cuts too. They can not just work for free, you know?

They’re working on QoL changes with all the other stuff they have in mind with a small team and you cry about event modes? Not valid imo.

This game has changed drastically over it’s lifetime, they want to make sure that the investments pay off, like every other business does. You would cry louder about the heroes not having changed since 5 seasons than all these fancy game modes Blizz “wastes his time” with.

You know it’s just your opinion, you guys complain way too much for only paying 40 euro once. No wonder DLC became a thing. They need money to make things and they are doing all this for free. Do you know how much time all those things cost ? It’s not let me gey my coffee and programm a new event mode. If it was we would all be devs by now.

Not to mention the game itself costs about 12 dollars now.

I mean have you played the game

Whatever they are doing it isn’t balancing…

It’s funny how you come for me and no one else in the thread. Every single patch is an attempt at balancing and sometimes it’s turns out positive, the only issue being it then effects something else that needs to be adjusted so it’s a never ending situation.

Do you play the game much? I just see a low profile level and bronze rank so I’m a little confused when your playtime is massively lower than my own. /thinking

It’s alright, Team Fortress 2 still kicking, has lots of content and free. Valve needs no apologists to look good.
