Differences between map modes (Hybrid, Payload, 2CP, KotH)

I like statistics. So after being a bit annoyed with certain map modes, I decided to keep track for about a month about whether there was a difference between them for me, especially when it comes to win rates. Please not that all the stats are taken from Mystery Heroes, so there’s a special element in there. Unfortunately I only seperated between the map mode (Hybrid, Payload, 2CP, KotH), not between attack/defense, nor between specific maps. All in all, I had a total of around 400 games, giving around 100 games in every mode (2CP lagging behind for obvious reasons).

Here’s the gist of it:
Win rate for KotH: ~50% (HUGE surprise, right?)
Win rate on all other map types: between 65 and 75%.

What’s interesting about that is not really my overall win rate, just that apparently in KotH, it’s really about the luck of the draw and thus a coin toss, whereas on the good map types, your performance matters more and you have a higher influence over the results.

Right now I’ll start gathering more detailed stats and may be back later. I might even start keeping tabs on competitive play, but that would mean I’d have to work on a large sample size in there…

Koth is the best designed mode. Both teams are put into a mirror situation, the best one wins.

Payload comes second mostly because it doesn’t have crazy swings. Even if you wipe you still need to get back and ride the cart.

2cp is the most hated mode for a reason. First point is extremely attack favored to the point where its over after 1 defender pickoff. The second point turns into stall fights that can go on for minutes.

So you’re saying that in a game that is obviusly designed to be about team work, the map mode that requires the most team work is the worst and the one that requires the least is the best. You also back that up not by facts but by your personal feelings.

Its a fact that 2cp is the most hated mode because of how inherently unbalanced it is. The other modes being more fair towards both teams do not make them less teamwork intensive. Going alone and overextending in koth will be punished as severely as everywhere else.
