Summer games has always been my least favorite event and yet, even with no expectations this event has managed to let me down.
6 new skins, I chose not to count epic skins which are mostly just another recoloring of the base model and as such are insignificant, 2 new highlight intros which are mediocre at best because honestly the highlight intros really are not that interesting and one new emote for Mei which is kind of cute but that is it.
The return of Lucio ball manages to disappoint, not a new game mode, just the same old one with from what I can see no significant changes to the formula and as someone who dislikes Lucio and Football I can take no joy in the game mode so really, for me this event may as well just not have happened this year. It’s release was an obligation, nothing more and it really shows with the brazen lack of effort on display and I am surprised how disappointing I found this considering I already expected nothing and I know full well that I could just ignore this whole thing, I mean I don’t have to play the arcade mode or open the loot boxes or even really acknowledge this event.
I find a need to make it clear that Blizzard has the power to let me down with an event I not only wasn’t hyped for but that I forgot existed until a couple of hours ago. This was just to air out that frustration, you may now resume your busy life of scrolling through the forums.
What did you expect other than repetition? Who in his right mind would pour lots or resources into something that is only available for 3 weeks out of 52, when there are new maps and heroes to deliver and existing ones awaiting reworks as well as improvements to the game’s core?
If there is anything wrong with this summer event, then it’s that it is not 3 weeks of double XP in recognition of the fact that it is actually summer with other things to do besides sitting inside and playing some silly game.
The new Ana, D.va and Zen skins are very nice, but otherwise this whole event is a fiasco. The Lucio Ball is as boring as ever and if I’d have to describe the rest of the cosmetics with a taste it would be flour. I’m probably going to grind those 3 skins and continue with my summer vacation…
Umm… it’s interesting to see everyone throwing a fit over this event. I’ve never enjoyed Lucio Ball, but I figured since other people must like it, I just figured like “Ok, this is that one event that isn’t for me.” But then you’re all complaining about it now? Why did you enjoy it in the first place? What’s changed?
Oh, I also didn’t like that Mei snowball thing or the Yeti thing. I suppose my point is, some events just aren’t for everyone. I don’t get the sudden hate though because there was no complaining about Lucio Ball last year.
Well you answered your questions with questions. It was fun when it was new and fresh since nothing similar had been in the game and they even changed the game by not allowing players to boop other players. In addition the summer event cosmetics have been much more awesome so compared to those it’s just meh. If this is your first time playing the event I’m sure you’ll enjoy it, but otherwise it’s just dogchocolate
Actually a lot of people still enjoy it. I tend to stay away since I didn’t really like it from the get go. But there’s old events I’m looking forward to and wouldn’t really care if there were changes to them or not. That’s why the events are limited by time during certain periods. I’m afraid if there was a new game mode every single event, we would get a lot less of other stuff. As for the skins, same goes, I don’t watch American sports but I respect the fact that some do and want themed skins.
I remember when they introduced custom arcade games and it was said that they would look at game settings of most played custom games so it would give them an idea what kind of game modes people enjoy. Only new event idea they can get from todays custom games is an xp farm.
That depends how you define “a lot of people” and since there isn’t an opinion poll requirement before logging in we don’t really know. Some people enjoy it, but the crushing majority doesn’t which is more relevant than a vague “a lot of people”.
Well no. The reason the PvE content is limited to seasonal events is to keep the playerbase intact and satisfied with PvP content. Here’s a link to a post about it: https://www.pcgamesn.com/overwatch/overwatch-pve-mode
That depends on the resources available for the event. If the same teams are responsible for all the events then yes moving focus from one are to another means less of the other. It’s just that they’ve been able to provide new content for all the other events while retaining the older content and giving us just as much as they’ve always been able to. It’s just that for some reason the summer games is an exception so people just don’t care about it. New skins? Cool cool. Lucio Ball? +90% of the playerbase isn’t probably going to touch that after 0-4 games
So what you’re saying is that even your asumption that no one likes it is just that, an asumption, which means that
Is in fact just your asumption.
Please elaborate how does this double standard thing work? I can’t determine that certain amount of people play the mode because we don’t have a poll on it, but somehow you know that majority dislikes it?
Yes, but it’s odd how the community went from enjoying something to suddenly loathing it? I don’t understand the sudden reverse.
If I look at it from my perspective, I enjoy the Uprising and Blackwatch events because I enjoy the PvE challenge. I wouldn’t just suddenly wake up one morning and be all like “Oh, I hate PvE now, I’m going to kick up a fuss on the forum!” It’s just strange to see the contrast from last year where no one complained about Lucio Ball to it suddenly being the worst thing ever.
I don’t enjoy something and then suddenly hate it, is what I mean and I just find the suddenness of it a bit dramatic. Maybe I’m just different and not the sort of gamer to love something, then suddenly hate it. If it’s no longer “fresh”, then was it really fun to begin with?
I can load up a good old game and enjoy the heck out of it. It’s certainly not fresh, but good games stand the test of time. So, either Lucio Ball was always terrible or people really do have teeny attention spans and are super fickle.
i came to not expect anything from this game anymore…
useless/broken reworks, worst solo que i’ve ever seen in any game (and that includes paladins wich is saying something) so many teasing for an event that’s… not even an event imho…
it’s just releasing some new skins… nothing more
if you plan an event, then make it a decent EVENT… not advertise an event and trow a t-shirt into the crowd and be done with it (that’s how this event feels)
I totally feel you op, the summer event has also been at the bottom of my list. I started playing OW last year when the summer event was going to air in 2017. It has let me down once again. I mean i liked the one last year except lucio ball, but this time they really dissapointed me to the core. Nothing really special came out of it except d.va’s and zenyatta’s new skin.
But i already knew from the start that this summer event was going to be a dissapointment in my eyes since it kinda was last year as well, so i wasn’t really sad or anything.
His skin is one of the skins that i only like. And how do you know he has no balls? It hasn’t been revealed anything lol xD but i mean he has a few of them so i wouldn’t say he didn’t have any lolol
I dislike football and I have not played lucioball, not even out of curiosity, not once! nope, it’s not going to happen!
I expected a topless Torbjorn and I didn’t got one, that was disappointing for me…I still don’t get it why you were disappointed if u didn’t had any expectations? what?
That it is. Like I said there’s no way to know how many players actually enjoy the Lucio Ball modes. Not enjoying the mode =//= disliking it. I just think that it’s a bit more reasonable to assume that there aren’t considerable amounts of players playing the gamemode unless they’re new to the event and since we were already throwin subjective opinions out there I did it too.
How is it odd? If majority of people didn’t get bored of doing the same thing over and over again we’d still be playing Tetris but a lot of people find it very boring after a few games while there are considerable Tetris communities out there. Same goes with Lucio Ball. It’s a simplistic, repeatitive and fast gamemode yet still there are players who’ll compete for a top 500 spot in it.
That’s quite a naive perspective as not enjoying something doesn’t mean hating or disliking it. Players just don’t want something they don’t enjoy and they don’t enjoy the same gamemode 3rd time in a row. If you read the topics about hate towards this years Summer Games you’ll see that most hate the lack of new content, not that old content was there. If Lucio Ball just was there with new content people wouldn’t complain, but it’s just a rerun. It’s like Bethesda announcing Skyrim 4K remastered or watching the same movie again and again. Besides comparing Lucio Ball to actual games is like saying that a french fry is a whole meal.
