This happened twice in the past two days. Never used to be an issue before. What happens is I queue for competitive, I disconnect during queue. One of the times it’s my connection disconnecting, but the other my internet was fine.
The issue is that the client doesn’t know I’m disconnected and the server thinks I’m still there even though I disconnected before the game starts. I didn’t even see the game start screen.
My suggestion is that the server should ‘check’ that the client is still connected before the match start by sending a ping or something. Lost 100 SR and 30 minute suspension a bit harsh.
When that happens, usually it is because the client disconnects just when the game was going to start, or very shortly before.
If that happens to you often, even if the rest of the programs using internet connection don’t get disconnected, it’s important that we troubleshoot a bit and try to fix it. Please, check this article and make sure you follow all the instructions, including the advanced steps: battle.net/support/article/99037
If the issue persists, we would need some extra data so we can investigate:
Details of issue:
Date/time it started:
City/Country:
Internet Provider:
Traceroute (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)
Pathping (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)
WinMTR (right after a disconnection or whenever you’re experiencing the issue)
Rather than matching the player, the game should check whether the player is actually connected to the servers and throw him out of the queue, if that’s not the case. I’m sure this is already done in some shape or form, but the check should at least be done when the game is about to start with some leeway.
If the player hasn’t seen the matchup it can’t possibly be a dodge but a unwanted disconnect. Nobody should be punished for that.
I’ve answered the thread you’ve linked. Please, in the future try to avoid posting on several threads about the same issue; it makes it harder for us to provide support and follow up each case, and it goes against the Code of Conduct.
Please, keep in mind we can’t really change things in-game on the Technical Support Forum, since we’re not involved in the developing process at all.
If you have ideas that could improve the game, don’t hesitate to post them on the General Forum; that way you can debate your ideas with other players, and our Community team can pass on the general sentiment to our developers.
About the disconnection itself, if you suffer disconnections often, please make sure you follow the instructions left on my previous message.
