Does anyone just jump in to comp without warming up?

I used to be that guy who would warm up my aim in custom games first, then maybe play 2-3 QP games, really get my aim and reflexes flowing, and only then play comp.

Well, many seasons of doing this and I realized I was still in plat  and nothing much was changing.

I noticed I give 100% even in QP, and try to win, then when I do, I always end up thinking ā€œI could have spent those last 15 minutes winning a game in comp! DOH!!ā€.

Anyone else just not bothered with warming up any more and dive straight in?

No, because i notice that some days the first game goes well, and the next day the first game goes horrible, so then i am glad I’m not jumping straight in to comp

Yeah, that first game is always unpredictable. Sometimes I do like to play that first game in QP and just flex around roles depending on the situation, to warm up for comp.

Today I came home from work, jumped straight in to comp, lost the first 2 games, won the last 2 games. And I’m warming up my dinner, about to play a few more. The games we lost could easily have been won, but nobody was in vc except me, and 1 other guy in both games. In those kinds of games, you could say it’s slightly better than a game of quickplay.

The last two games we had 3 people in vc both games.

Just imagine what could be possible if all 6 players were in vc, nice to each other, made each other laugh and called out low targets, focus fire, etc.

Sadly, it’s just the nature of online gaming. Not everyone is talkative. Not everyone likes doing call outs. Some people don’t even join vc, (this one I really don’t understand. You have to intentionally not care about winning if you won’t even listen to other people’s call outs :man_shrugging:)

Comp could be so much better if the human race just communicated more.

Oh and this is NA servers. God only knows how barren vc is on Euro servers

Eh, I warm up every now and then. Sometimes I warm up, sometimes I just jump right in. Just really depends on the type of day I’ve had or how i’m feeling. If i’m feeling kinda blehch then i’ll warm up a couple of rounds before jumping in, but if i’m in a ā€œlez gohā€ Kinda mood i’ll just jump in :joy:

I’m kinda the same lol.

Ok my 5th and 6th games were very strange!

The 5th game was the first time in almost 3 years of playing Overwatch that I experienced two girls go at it and start verbally insulting each other. Basically one girl was playing Mercy, and when we were getting ready for the second round, another girl took Mercy because ā€œshe had more hours on herā€. The first girl got offended and they were insulting each other and calling each other biatches throughout the second round. Never seen two girls be like that but I understand the frustration of someone taking you hero without even asking. It is rude, in some ways, especially if you’re doing well. We ended up losing, really bad negative energy in that game.

6th game was king’s row, Zarya vs Zarya battle, on King’s Row, and I mean, we all know how that went :smiling_imp:

pfffttt Honestly, While D.Va is mah baby gurl and I love her to bits despite her sledge hammer nerfs to her DM. I don’t really care who plays her :joy: if someone wants d.va or picks D.va first i’m like " 'aight. I’ll play mah boi rein today." lol but saying ā€œi’m a better D.va than youā€ is something crazy lol. I’d honestly be like ā€œokay, what ever you say manā€ lol. no use getting tilted over something silly like that and ruining the team cynergy. There’s always gonna be a better Character player than me. Though admittedly, it irks me when people claim they’re better at a certain character than me and just play the character like a complete noob and i’m like ā€œthe fak?! false advertisementā€ lolol

and I know exactly what you mean :joy: I have a friend who has a complete hard on for Kings Row lol it’s one of my favorite Hybrid maps too but not ā€œomg I wanna play kings row all the timeā€ sort of favorite lolol

If there’s been a long break between prev session and this, I’ll get my bearings and warm up in the Training Area, otherwise hit Ranked right away. Why? Because if I were to do QP, even a game or two, 99% chance would be going into competitive pre-tilted. Maybe this changes once 2-2-2 is implemented into QP, but playing effectively ā€œyolo 4+ DPS TDMā€ and then going into Ranked for more ā€œyolo 4+ DPS TDMā€, I prefer to minimize my suffering.

no point warming up for QP i think… its not that high stakes… but for Comp certainly…

I always get a bit annoyed when i get randomly invited into a group that instantly goes into comp without me having prepared ahead of time X3

Yeah, IDGAF anyways, just play to get my McCree on.

I never warm up. If I feel I’m underperforming I just switch to an easier hero for a while.

I always warm up in form of playing QP at least. Don’t see much point of that training room. Sometimes I go couple of rounds there with ash/widow before jumping into QP, it does not help you warming up since the bots always move predictably so you just move to the same directions they about to go and shoot. If you play sniper you should always warm up tho with Widow FFA or Ana paintball. Sometimes I just do good old Half Life 1 death match.

At 2 loss in comp its better putting the game down a bit or going QP otherwise you will just tilt and screw up even more.

Yeah, i always skip the warmup because nothing will really change the way i play.

Plus you can have bad and good games depending on your team as well, and being in silver or gold rank like me. Then you really don’t need to practice because everyone is bad in low ranks.

And i guess in low ranks you kinda need luck as well lol. At least in my opinion.

Play 1 game of QP - if it goes well move on to comp, if it doesn’t either keep on playing or skip comp for the day.
ā€œGoes wellā€ doesn’t necessarily mean ā€œwinningā€, just that it feels right.

Same  I’m exactly this.

I usually pay a visit to Training if it’s been more than a day after my last playing session, but not every time. It’s not exactly to practice aim - I mostly play non-aim heroes anyway - just to get the game in my fingers again before joining comp.

i play 1 QP before comp.

then 3-5 games of comp

then custom game

then go back to comp

I dont know why but this just works for me. about the voice chat thing your right it is barren on EU servers, and whoever is there are trolls. I only go in vc when i’m queueing in a group - otherwise people are just toxic

All the time. I hate QP, I’d rather lose my first game than play there.
