[England][Virgin Media] Connecting to middle eastern servers from England

Im recently aware that overwatch has decided to add middle eastern servers to make the game more fair for those playing in regions around the area, however they made the stupid decision of merging it with the EU servers. This is causing me and friends queuing on EU servers for competative for 140+ ping in games which just ends in overall loss due to high latency. The server it decides to pick from appears to be random depedning on what server the game was found on to and there is nothing to do about it.

I’ve had this problem as well and it’s causing my ping to go up an awful lot and it takes longer to connect to the game. I get a lot of lag as well.

well you can try to reset your network .for some people that has worked .

I’m in the UK on AAISP (81.187.128.0/17) and I’m getting put on servers in Bahrain (157.175.68.61 last game), which quintuples my latency (25ms -> 140ms)

I simply won’t play the game at all if this continues, even if it’s only 1 game out of 10 it’s not worth the 10 minutes of pain, like being back on a modem in 1997

sort it out, and the recurring issue where you end up routing packets from the UK to Paris via the US (which has been going on for months)

if I completely block AWS Bahrain on my router with:

ip route add blackhole 15.185.0.0/16
ip route add blackhole 99.77.147.0/24
ip route add blackhole 52.95.228.0/24
ip route add blackhole 157.175.0.0/16
ip route add blackhole 52.94.249.160/28
ip route add blackhole 15.177.87.0/24

(source: http s://ip-ranges.amazonaws.com/ip-ranges.json – me-south-1 on EC2)

I no longer see Bahrain custom games at all

I presume that means the matchmaker will also not allocate me to that servers in that region…

(the game measures your ping at startup, so restart the game after blocking)

Right now. Just a moment ago. I got connected again from The Netherlands to the Middle east.

Blizzard support is nowhere and we are 1.5 week further.
Keep it up Blizzard.

I suspect they won’t do anything about it…

if they split the ME players off completely I doubt that player base is large enough to be viable on its own

how exactly is this working?
i’ve heard of blackhole routing before but wouldn’t a simple IP block work as well?
Not sure if it works but i just added the listed IPs to my blacklist inside of my router(fritzbox).

yeah it’s just a different way of blocking the subnets

i assume i can simply add those via CMD?
also, what’s the command to undo/delete said blocks again?
I’ll just wanna give it a try and see if it works

it’s for a linux router, there’s probably a similar command for windows

they’re static route entries, they’re not stored, so if you reboot they’re gone

I haven’t been dumped in a ME game or had any weird “cannot join server” errors, but it’s probably too early to tell if it’s working properly

(ip route del also works… windows probably has an analogy too)

oh it’s for linux, i’ll try to find the command for windows real quick, thanks for the quick response!

They cant do a simple thing as give option to choose server .
Apex legends is already doing it .even with introduction of middle east server in ea you can choose eu easily from their menu .
