EU Latency got too high suddenly (WinMTR included)

I was playing quick matches and one of my matches i got 100ms higher latency than usual out of nowhere
I tought it could be a one time thing but it just stayed that way
It was 17-18 days ago
none of the other online games I play have this issue I am getting the latency i always got in all of them
I tried everything to fix it both stuff from sources blizz provided and stuff I was able to find online
I kinda hoped it would fix itself but it doesn’t really seem like it will
I ran 2 WinMTR’s and it seems like everything is fine until connection hops to “BLIZZARD-EN.edge7.Amsterdam1.Level3. net” server

OW keeps getting hit by DDOS attacks periodically, and they have also other issues like the one two days ago, so nothing really special. Do something else while waiting :wink:

DDOSed for 18 days nonstop? sounds unlikely

Heya Onion,

Cheers for reaching out to us regarding the latency you’ve been seeing. It does seem that this is a connection issue on the level 3 nodes where there is a much higher delay between them than there should normally be. Unfortunately, there isn’t much we can do in regards to this as it is outside of our network, none the less we hope that it is a short lived issue.

If it’s persisting for so many days, then it is probably your client connection issues since no one else has it.

Did you check whether your Battle-net client has set proper region for your OW game?
(the globe icon above play button)
Even if it is, change it to something else and go back to Europe to force change in config files.

If yes, then you should just repair/reinstall the game after wiping all game related files clean.

I am checking what server i’m connecting to
its not that
I am getting those numbers in both CDG1 and AMS1
surprisingly my latency is exactly what i would expect if i were to connect to MES1
I did play on MES1 before mostly when i play with a friend from Kuwait and as expected my connection to MES1 was never good
interestingly unlike CDG1 and AMS1 its not any worse than it was before

i did try repairing and reinstalling
i also tried winsock reset, int ip reset, ipconfig release/renew, flushdns
checked updates for every single software driver and frimware on my pc including bios
tried using different DNS
reset my router/modem
there might be some other stuff that i tried already but can’t remember about
nothing seem to affect the issue and like i said in the OP its only overwatch
no other game or service shown any kind of unexpected degradation with their connections

Maybe your ISP have some beef with the game server/IP :thinking:

Hi, I am experiencing the same exact problem. I was playing fine with even two computers connected and playing at the same time. Suddendly the connection deteriorated for both of us. I am playing from a PC while the other is a laptop. The problem disappeared when the laptop got connected to a slower but different network.

How did you fix your problem, if you did?

I have the same problem too. @OnionSama do you use super online fiber ?

Yes i do use SuperOnline fiber

I haven’t technically solved my problem yet but I was able to find a temporary band-aid solution

an application called Mudfish helped me get my normal latency back
If either of you @iceronx and @barogaro still having the problem and are willing to try Mudfish i would be happy to help with that

Sadly i can’t reply to 2 people so i believe this might not give notification to iceronx and it won’t let me reply again cuz i believe u can’t reply if u are the last person to reply in a thread

I haven’t really solved it
but i started routing my connection through a VPN which is a nice temporary solution for the problem for me but if i try to play without the VPN its still the same
most vpn adds ton of latency so if you are planning to do the same be sure to pay attention to that

Also i can confirm that connect me to America instead of Europe as always has been.
I checked the IP on the up left on the screen and is not at all EU server.
Got uploaded the screenshot but it says i can’t post links…!!!
and the server i got is 24.105.13…that is some part in USA when i am in Italy!!!

Just fix it, cause all happened after the patches…were more than one in few days last week and i noticed this abnormal huge increase in ping and latency.

What server do you get?
ctrl+shift+n to see it on the top left of the screen.
I got still problems, it run normal as it sholud 1day and i managed to play, the all others times i still have high ping and is unplayable.

when i had the problem server was kinda random but it wasn’t just game connecting me to bad servers cuz even in EU servers i had extremely high latency

RN tho its connecting me to the usual servers and i have normal latency
I am not sure how it got solved

For me is unreal seeing the server ord1 alias Chicago, while i am connected on Europe region; days ago when i had the right one, ams1 alias Amsterdam i got the proper ping at max 50ms, but with the wrong connection on the american ones i still have 1000-800ms ping. None can’t even tell me why that’s happens, on US forum they said is a problem of my provider, and is untrue.

but only for netherlands servers
france servers are fine
idk what it is but its super annoying

Indeed, 3years that i play and never had such problems.
It’s crazy cause is high ping generated by connecting on an USA server when instead i am in Europe, also saw the CDG server (french one) the ping remained.
Don’t know what to do, in US forum they didn’t give me the solution and here none of blues respond. Like some others users suggested is probably linked to the OW2 Beta, too much of a coincidence when launched some players got problems in latency.

Experiencing weird latency issues the past week or so. Also Amsterdam… =(. Rubberbanding and hit reg feeling off.
