Everything appears blurry when I move fast after changing the graphic settings from low to ultra. No problem in replays

Hi, I’d greatly appreciate any kind of help or idea that could help me with this problem.

I have a 240hz monitor (Asus VG279QM IPS Gsync) and I’ve been playing Overwatch 2 on 240 fps with no problems ever since I started using this monitor two years ago.

TL;DR:

  • Characters, names, models, airborne texts in workshop maps, anything that’s in the middle of the screen started to look blurry when I AD strafe. It gets way worse when I’m close.
  • It didn’t exist before.
  • It happened after turning the graphic settings from low to ultra and back to low once.
  • Also, it doesn’t appear in replays. In replays the game looks fine, just like how it did before, but when I play it myself, it’s still there.

I have a 240hz monitor (Asus VG279QM IPS Gsync) and I’ve been playing Overwatch 2 with 240 fps with no issue ever since I started using this monitor two years ago. After playing for 3 hours with no problems today, I changed the graphic settings to ultra and restarted the game, then changed it back to low and restarted it again. And now, characters, their names and healthbars, airborne texts in practice maps, basically everything that’s on my crosshair started to appear blurry when I move fast at close range. If they’re also moving, it gets even worse. Their names become unreadable. It only happens when I’m close to them. Also it’s gone in replays, but still there when I play.

It was literally fine 5 minutes before. Before restarting the game I might have changed some settings from Nvidia control panel for Overwatch but when I reverted it back to default it didn’t fix it.

I think it’s a refresh rate problem but I’m not sure what caused it. I believe it’s called ghosting but it didn’t exist 5 minutes before. When I lower the fps to 144 or 60, blurriness disappears but then it looks laggy because my monitor is 240hz. When I set the overdrive option of the monitor to 100 (max), the blurriness disappears but this time it looks like there’s invert ghosting, colors look weird etc. I’ve been using it on 60 with no problem before. I also tried the UFO test and there’s no problem, blurriness or ghosting there.

I’m using the previous Nvidia driver (566.14) because the new one (566.36) causes major fps drops but like I said, it was perfectly fine with the previous driver 5 minutes ago.

Things I’ve tried and didn’t work:

  • Restarting the PC
  • Checked cables, unplugged and plugged them back in (even though they didn’t even move)
  • Turned my second monitor off
  • Reinstalling the nvidia driver I’ve been using with no problem (566.14)
  • Reinstalling the newest nvidia driver (566.36) (didn’t fix and still major fps drops)
  • Scan and repair the game
  • Reinstalling the game
  • Turning Gsync on and off
  • Turning Low latency mode on and off
  • Turning Vsync on and off (both in game and Nvidia control panel)
  • Basically tried changing every Overwatch in game graphic settings
  • Set the in game frame limit to 230, 239, 250, 600
  • Enabled Nvidia Reflex in game setting
  • Tried various different settings from Nvidia control panel 3D settings tab for Overwatch. Gsync, low latency mode, vsync, max frame rate) There could be settings I haven’t tried that maybe you know and could help.
  • Reverting the 3D settings of Overwatch from Nvidia control panel to default
  • Tried the UFO test, it looked perfectly smooth with no problem

I don’t think my PC specs matter since I didn’t have this problem literally 5 minutes before but here:
Nvidia Geforce RTX 3060 Ti
AMD Ryzen 5 5600X
16 GB Ram
Windows 11

I think I may have accidentally changed a setting while looking at the 3D Settings tab for Overwatch 2 in the Nvidia control panel while resetting the game for graphics settings and that may be causing this problem, but even after reverting it back to default and playing with different setting combinations it didn’t help. Still, if you know a setting or a combination that you know might help with this issue, I’d really appreciate it because I’m all out of options.

Thank you all in advance.

UPDATE:
The problem is gone in replays, still there when I play it myself. So weird.

I decided to check the replays of the matches I played and it looked fine, just like how it looked before. So I thought maybe it’s fixed, hopped on to practice range but no, it’s still there, blurry. Then, I watched the replay of the workshop session that I played to test the problem AND IT’S GONE. There’s no blurriness when I AD strafe at close range in replay, but it’s blurry when I play it myself. How could a problem that appears in live gameplay doesn’t appear in replays?

Increase your mouse polling rate, had the same problem.
If you have mouse with 125Hz than you should upgrade your mouse.

You can check this list for good mouse sensors - https://sensor.fyi/sensors/
Low mouse polling rate with high screen refresh rate and you have this problem.

Of course you can always chose mouse from this list if you are too lazy to research yourself https://sensor.fyi/mice/

Would suggest to get mouse with sensor that has at least 200ips 30g and 1000Hz polling rate, DPI aka CPI is irrelevant as you should typically use 400 or 800.

Yes, it is because my second mouse’s polling rate. I use 2 mouses, 1 for gaming (Logitech G305, has 1000hz polling rate) 1 for anything besides gaming. I turn off my Logitech G305 when I close the game because it’s scroll wheel is broken and I use my other mouse, it’s a regular HP brand mouse and it doesn’t have a 1000hz polling rate. So when I relaunched the game while my G305 was off, the game registered the HP mouse as my main mouse and since it didn’t have a 1000hz polling rate, this problem occurred. It’s now fixed whenever I launch the game with my G305 on. Thank you, even though you’ve told me the reason 1 month ago, I’ve only been able to figure it out now.
