Fact: Gold weapon skins make you play better

I thought this was know and established fact.

I have like 11 golden weapons and widowmaker was my main (now replaced by tracer)

And i have like 200 hours on widow and has her golden, but i haven’t improved that much on widow.

So no golden weapons don’t improve your gameplay, because what we really need to get better is:

  1. A better attitude towards the team.
  2. Don’t act selfish and pick what you want to play.
  3. Don’t act like a toxic 4 year old.

Golden weapons has NEVER been the great asset to play better.

The times i saw a hanzo or genji with golden weapon and they were like bronce players is countless

This is scientifically untrue. If we connect neural receptors to our brains and study feedback, I am sure we would find that gold weapons make us happier, feel more accomplished and ultimately result in more efficient play, better aim and an overall better performance.

At most gold weapons may have some spychological effect on people…
but mostly it just makes you stand out more ruining any stealth value of any skin you picked…

Your better of just picking a red colored skin if you want a psychological advantage.

Or if your on dorado i alway pick blue skins since they have better stealth value in the dark. (real ninjas wear blue as Gajin Gomba Says)

I don’t believe in that, like why would be feel like have accomplished something when some people feel forced to plqy comp just to get a golden weapon?

Because in my case i feel like it’s unfair that we who doesn’t like playing in comp has to force ourselves to play something we don’t want just to get that special thing.

Because that’s what i’m doing, i’m only playing comp for the golden weapons and nothing else. Since comp is a very toxic place to be in as well. It’s not often you see people play comp for the challange, at least for me.

So i think bluzzard should change it up, and do something else to get a golden weapon. Because it’s not really fun imo.

And just because i have a golden gun doesn’t mean my aim gets better LOL. Because my aim is still the same.

You raise an interesting point! I’ve often contemplated switching skins based on the map and general color scheme so my hero can blend in more with the map colors, as opposed to having a shiny gold gun that sticks out like a sore thumb, but I just can’t be bothered switching it up all the time. Reminds me of the old Quake3 days, reducing color schemes down to the very basic, using picmic settings to basically make enemies look like polygon blocks, so much easier to see and hit, plus it speeds up the game and increases fps, no textures, no lighting, no shadows, everything looked like a game of minecraft, but it worked. I used to play in EU Rocket Arena leagues with my friends/clan so it was a must we all set the game up this way. I’m sure if it was possible in Overwatch, many people would do it too since performance > eye candy.

Well there are other psychological skin related effect you can rely on too…

like using doomfists black and white face paint camo or the Leopard patterned skins that both can serve as a form of dazzeling.

this is basically a technique where you try to throw of someone aim by making it harder for him to judge your moment with confusing visuals…

Or you can use various reddish looking skins to use evolutionary psychology to give you an advantage as red is a color that makes you seam more aggressive…

In games with red and blue teams there is a statistically greater win-rate for the red team if both teams are roughly similar in skill…

Quite the opposite. Playing with golden weapons makes us complacent, because we already have what we strived for. Pre-gold, we play harder. It is known.

Believe it or not, that’s the only reason I play these days. I remember trying to get enough comp points to buy my first gold weapon for Zarya last year. When I did, I loved it and would just stare at it for a while. Then I got my 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, etc…and naturally that wow factor has diminished so now my incentive for playing comp is purely for the challenge

I do agree with you that they should remove gold gun points from comp and do it some other way. That was a bad idea to mix that with comp because now matter how you look at it, there’s a portion of players only playing comp for those points and the gold skins, which is not a good thing. People should be in comp only for comp and progression, not skins and cosmetics, those should be tied to XP, play time, whatever. But not just comp.

I dont mind that they cost comp points… i just think they need more options…

Maybe to make some rarer versions they could have requirment that combine gold, comp points and league points…

Basically the scarcity and dificulty of unlocking something adds to its value… so having more complex requirments could be a nice system…

Maybe also requirments that you have certain achivments… they could do a lot to add special guns other then the booooring gold ones.

That would also make it more fun for players that have already unlocked most of the easy stuff… give us some goals… goals are key to engagement… so i think this would make sense…
