I’ve been wondering for a while if i’m alone in feeling that favour the shooter often gives those with higher ping within a certain threshold a unfair advantage?
If you have good ping, your opponent will recieve everything you do within a good margin and can react accordingly.
Having bad ping will result in a certain delay until your target gets the package telling them they’re being shot, resulting in the target not reacting in time to get out of harm.
Good example is roadhog hooks. I got about 20-30ms ping, and if the character i am hooking got an escape ability (reaper, mei etc) they get it off just as i’m about to finish them off with the instant melee.
However sometimes when i am hooked by a hog, i don’t even get the chance, even though i’m holding in the button the instant i get hooked (which will result in me using the ability the instant i get freed). Looking at their screen I didn’t even react between the shot and the melee.
Same can happen when a widow peeks around the corner, in which I instantly react to dodge but get hit anyway. Killcam shows me not noticing them at all.
I do remember in the early days of OW they raised this threshold because there was a lot of complaints about hits not registering. And it was after this it stopped being the “normal” shot around corners as you just managed to get into cover, to you being hit through walls.
