Feedback On 2-2-2 Role Queue

Here’s my thoughts on the new role queue. I’m writing this to be productive and positive because I find the negative and anger can really down this forum sometimes.

Games are now more stable.
What I mean by this is that, in live, it’s a lottery in whether you are going to have a good match. Throwers and what not are unavoidable, but the rate at which players would criticise others than attempt to play that role, only to lose anyway was troubling. That matched with instalocking smurf or dedicated accounts could cause a loss as soon as the match started. Having the security of guaranteed Tanks and supports allows for greater focus on strategy and personal play.

Removal of the “Flex” play style.
The reason why this is a positive to me is because I was a flex player myself. Always filling between Tank and support. However, I was never improving because of this. My inability to be able to focus on one and really notice the errors in my plays in each was hindering my performance. I feel that there is still a soft flex play style where you can Queue for all 3 roles, but it’s good to be able to really focus on that one role once matched, and really improve with that focus without having to worry about the other roles for that match.

New SR system.
Kind of a continuation of what I was saying in the last point. I am shocked by the SR differences between my roles. It really woke me up as to what was holding me back. Also, not having to make multiple accounts just to practice a certain role is great. I am comfortable playing anything on the PTR because I know that I am playing within my skill range for that role, removing pressure. Again feeds back into the improvement point.

More creativity
Maybe I stand alone on this one, but because of certain changes and the 2-2-2 lock, so many more hero’s are viable. Some of which haven’t seen the light of day in some time (Reaper, 76, Tracer, Genji) I’m not a DPS player, but I am also excited to see more of them around. It’s much more entertaining to play with and against, rather than spam as many main healers and tanks as we can and walk into them. The comps that will come from this is going to be great.

Wait times
It’s got to be mentioned that the wait times are going to be rough, I do however see that Overwatch team are trying all sorts to balance that by adding better and more engaging hero’s with higher skill caps and incentives to Q for the less populated roles.

Re-balance
Now this is something I don’t see touched on that I think many would benefit seeing. Some hero’s were nerfed and buffed with an unlocked system in mind. That being said, some don’t fit quite right now it’s locked in 2-2-2. An example would’ve been Brigitte, or Lucios and Zens Nerfs. These changes were made in order to tone down the GOATS issue, but it’s gone now and would strongly recommend having a once over all the hero’s to see who maybe doesn’t need their nerfs or buffs anymore.

In sort, thank you Overwatch team. You haven’t been perfect by any stretch, but the thing that keeps me playing is the obvious passion you have for this game. I look forward to many more years to come

Thats your problem and nothing to do with the system. You don’t have to flax to fill in a role/character you are not good at if you don’t want to. Only weak willed people feel forced to comply while the rest are picking what they want. The fact that you need a forced lock to learn a role speaks more about yourself, not about the game.

“Now that I’m being forced to play in a way I don’t enjoy, I’m improving slightly faster.”

I don’t think he’s a serious user.

Neither are you, so what are you still doing here?

I agree on all counts. ever since I started playing around on the PTR I don’t feel quite as enraged or stressed out about the composition of my team, or the composition of the others and how one is stronger against the other. Everyone is equal, but at the same time different. My win rate in the 2-2-2 is far better than what my win rate is in the live server. I feel comfortable solo queuing in 2-2-2 because while communication is still a good asset, it doesn’t require as much communication as the current system right now. I can easily use the communication wheel to indicate to my teammates what i’m wanting to say and they’ll get it. I feel It’s definitely a step in the right direction. There will be hiccups no doubt, but it’s definitely something i’m looking forward to. Hell I might even enjoy comp more and actually would like to climb instead of do my placements and never touch again because of how broken the system is right now.

Great post OP. You articulated the benefits of 222 better than I could and I echo much of what you experienced. As a tank main, I’ve been yearning for 222 for years, and I always told myself “once the game has played out long enough, and players start leaving, Blizzard will give us everything we want, role queue, replays, more avoid slots, etc.” 3 years on and here we are, finally we have role queue. better late than never I say

Oh and as for the negative comments, it’s a lot less than people think. Just on this forum alone you’ll only find 2-3 members who keep bashing the idea of 222, while almost everyone else is happy and excited for this change.

Issue Im finding is Damage can troll to easily now leaving the rest of the team stuck getting killed over and over with no chance to win.

Also noticed a lot of people picking selfishly letting their team get overrun and doing little other than taking pot shots then running away as if they are padding their kill to death ratio

We used to be able to switch if someone was throwing and playing a role we needed but now we will be stuck unable to

The 2-2-2 is needed but I think we need a way to still switch roles during a game

We can’t logically judge 222 from PTR feedback for multiple reasons. Wait till it goes live in comp, give it a month, then we can all have a serious discussion on whether it’s working or not. To reach conclusions (which the few members here who are against 222 have done) from PTR experience is premature, to say the least. It’s like me making a final decision on a car based on the concept model.

Add role trade. Btw Activision should really pay taxes.

Those will drop to a rank they belong fast, so you would’t really see them that often, naturally most players are probably better at tank and healer so that reduces the chance quite lot to, anyway if they intentionally disrupt the game well go back into replay double check and then report.

Where did I say I didn’t enjoy 2-2-2? I adore it, which is part of the reason I’m improving.
