Feedback on Experimental Changes (June 2nd)

Hey there, on the off-chance one of the Devs will end up stumbling across this, here’s my 2 cents on the new experimental changes. TL;DR at the end.

Regarding the range reduction of Echo’s focusing beam: I think this is a good change so there’s not much more to say about this in my opinion.

Concerning the Hanzo changes I don’t think he requires the buff to Storm arrow, after all the damage reduction had occurred for good reason in the first place. He is a Sniper capable of both killing enemies with a single shot at any distance while still being able to provide substantial assistance when it comes to shieldbreak. It is true that he has taken a bit of the backseat with the appearance of Echo and the ascendance of Ashe in particular, however he is still by no means a bad character. Providing this damage buff will enable Hanzo not only to kill 200hp targets with a headshot and a bodyshot during stormarrow, but burst through 250hp targets with two headshots of the same ability.

The Moira changes have me a little split. Naturally a decrease in damage is understandable as it is easily applied, however this will drastically reduce her viability in deterring flankers such as Tracer and Genji (who will also have to be addressed). The increase in healing is not as substantial, though it further erodes Ana’s position and is mostly just a reversion of an earlier nerf. Reducing Moira’s survivability especially with the upcoming Genji buffs is a risky gamble for the support category. Then again chances are that in higher Elos Baptiste will be played instead of Moira either way.

Now to address the elephant in the room: Genji. The increase in damage gives him oneshot potential. The decrease in spread allows him to perform this oneshot from further away (albeit still close). The deflect changes make it impossible for other characters to skillshot the end of deflect (e.g. sleepdart), mostly forcing a blind predict as long as it is canceled. Furthermore the increase in damage and decrease in spread enable a rapid building of Dragonblade which has been a solid ultimate and is traditionally combined with nanoboost in Dive. With recent nerfs to Ana and Moira Genji will be able to operate increasingly uncontested, Brigitte likely being the only true counter in the support category applicable, considering that Nanoblade can burst through transcendence and is easier to build than Soundbarrier. While Baptiste has traditionally been played in Double Shield and is gradually overtaking Ana in Brawl compositions for the value of Immortality Field it is at best an alright counterplay to Dragonblade. Overall there’s been direct and indirect buffs to Genji which seem very powerful on paper, how strong they will actually end up being remains to be seen in regards to the meta.

TL;DR:
Echo nerf: Good, should be applied.
Hanzo buff: Increases the amount of power creep in the game and should not be applied.
Moira changes: Decreases Moira’s survivability, increases her healing output. Preferably not applied until Genji changes have been live to evaluate their impact on live servers. (Assuming they will be put live)
Genji changes: Probably overtuned, should be looked at again before being put into live.
