Here are my thoughts behind this
I think OW is a messy game not just in hero balancing or what Overwatch as a game wants to be stamped as in game genres FPS, MOBA, RPG, MMO, etc, etc. but I think the main reason is that it is too much shooting healing and tanking happens, whether it’s QP, CP or any mode in Arcade, except 1v1 for obvious reasons,
but maybe the game would have been more organized if it had been
5 vs 5 and not 6 vs 6,
oh and the maps are automatically larger
since there are two fewer participants in the game that occupy space,
and game queue becomes shorter.
This is actually something that I have thought about constantly
what do you think about this I am very curious about others’ views on this topic?

The nature of the game really requires at least 2 of every role so that there’s a backup if one dies. Okay, maybe not so much with DPS, but you generally need 2 healers and 2 tanks.
Therefor I’ve gone the other way than you have and think 7 vs 7 could be a better set up. Notice that I said “could”, as in I’m not 100% sure, but it has certain benefits in theory.
I don’t have the source anymore but in an Interview, Jeff stated that 6v6 was the perfect balance. 5v5 hasn’t given enough room for composition and 7v7 made the match chaotic.

Yeah, 2 healers, 2 tanks and 6-10 dps. That’s the recipe for success…
But I like my OW messy
Some of us actually enjoy the game that we bought, you know? Battles made of pure chaos is what makes OW be OW. Otherwise, I could be playing any other similar game out there. As should do anyone that prefers other game, instead of trying to change this one to their liking.
He allowed Mercy Meta to live for 3,5 months
He also said that Birgitte was in a good place when she obviously was not,
and when people wanted Reaper Buff Jeff comes in saying Reaper is in a good spot right now, gives Reaper a mini rework 1 month later.
and when people were tired of Roadhogs 1shot combo he destroyed that hero too, and left him like that for many months before doing anything.
So I would take Jeff’s word nerfs and buffs with a pinch of salt.
You are aware that jeff is just the representative, don’t you?
Also, you are talking about balancing, which is dealt by another team, not game design.
The guy is game director, and vice-president … show respect, don’t call him PR.
Pulling a strawman on purpose, are you suggesting that Jeff Kaplan designed the game all by himself?
Jeff directs the big picture but when it comes to details like balancing, matchmaking, bug fixing, etc., a specialized team is responsible.
So maybe the balancing team explained Jeff how 6 was the recommended slot number and he agreed.
When you design something for someone, you try to convince them that the design is good. After all, design is the art of finding good excuses.
No, I’m saying that he’s not a PR. He’s at the top of deciding chain when it comes to OW, and prob nothing can be done without his approval. Guy is neither PR nor mere representative …
who is and what is Jeff Kaplan,
Jeff Kaplan is the leading gaming director and main designer, what does it mean to be a leading gaming director or LEAD director, it means that you represent the independent directors of a board for the company or products you produce, which means that he monitors the development of products in question,
he is the boss and if you are the boss, then it means that if something is wrong with the company or with a product,
then it’s his fault that something is wrong
as LEAD director,
even though it was one of his lower-ranked random team members who made the mistake
It is the role of being the leading director.
and u will have a greater chance to carry the game based on your own skills since there is one player less on both teams that can throw the game
