Floaty mouse issues, sensitivity changing randomly

What exactly is going on here? I’ve been having this problem for a couple of months now, initially thinking it was packet loss due to the packet loss icon appearing constantly. I’m experiencing micro stutters while playing too. They are hardly noticeable, but my mouse is extremely floaty. It seems to skip targets constantly or hits just don’t register. I’m unable to properly track targets without the crosshairs ‘slipping’. I remember on my old PC I had micro-stutter problems as well, but it never affected my mouse movement. What could this possibly be? I’ve tried everything from device driver reinstalls, power setting changes and even replaced all of my PC components including mouse and hard drive with a fresh w10 installation. As shown in the video, I used to be able to keep my crosshairs perfectly on the target while rotating around it, but as you can see now it keeps ‘skipping’ constantly as if the sensitivity is changing by itself. Video may be a bit of a vague example but it’s the best way I have to show the problem. And no, it’s not the mouse pad either, even on a ridiculously dirty mousepad I used to be able to track way more consistently than this

In this second video you can see pretty much about every value in the network graph fluctuates/jumps pretty often. The mouse seems to spike whenever the SIM value jumps. Are these really all symptoms of packet loss? I was told mouse sensitivity is not affected by packet loss. Could someone explain what all of these individual values mean?

When spectating other players while waiting for respawn in particular shows the third SIM value peaking at 100+

Hey there RȂƗŊDǞŊĈȄ,

The Network graph video you have doesn’t show very much to be concerned about to be honest with you, with only a very small fluctuation shown on the SIM values. The SIM value is “Simulation” and represents the amount of time your client took to process a tick.

If you’re noticing mouse issues coinciding with an increase in the SIM value ti could indicate a micro freeze or delay on your PC, to start with please can you try and close any Background Applications to rule out any interference.

Then can I ask you to please try working through the following support article, including the Advanced Troubleshooting section to ensure to cover the most common potential causes of Connection Issues.

If the above suggestions don’t help, can you collect System Files from your Computer, I would also like to ask you to run a connection test called a WinMTR. This tool will run a style of pathping which will hopefully give us a little bit more information about any potential issues in the connection between us.

Once you’ve collected the data, please click on ““Copy text to clipboard”” and paste the results into a text file, and then upload theSystem Files and WinMTR to a file host site (like Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, or Pastebin), and share the link with us here.

Note: it’s possible you may not be able to share links directly, and if that is the case please select/highlight the link and click the </> button on your editor to convert the link to Preformatted Text.

Hello, thanks for the quick response. I’ve already tried troubleshooting connection issues is the past using the topic you’ve linked. I’ve also tried running the game with as little background apps running as possible, but even after a fresh windows 10 install and having only Overwatch installed I still have the problem. This is an issue in all games, not just Overwatch but it’s most noticeable in Overwatch. The issue persists in offline games when not connected to the internet so even if I do have packet loss, I doubt it’s the main cause of the problem. Although there’s no way to test in OW since it requires an internet connection

EDIT: Here’s a Latency Monitor report as well while playing a game of Overwatch. I’m not entirely sure how to determine whether or not there’s actually a DPC problem here. It’s pointing mostly towards the video driver but no matter what driver version I use, it still happens. Even after a clean video driver wipe using a program such as display driver uninstaller. My videocard is in a PCIe x16 GEN3 slot and I’ve switched it manually to MSI mode, also one of my earlier attempts to solve the issue.

Worth noting is that I have no audio problems whatsoever.

EDIT2: Just disabled IPv6 in Network settings and this drastically decreased my mouse issues! The problem still persists though, but it’s less severe now. Leaves me wondering whether IPv6 is the culprit or the victim.

Hey again RȂƗŊDǞŊĈȄ,

I’m sorry to hear that you’re still having the troubles with your Mouse. It is certainly a very weird sounding issue, that’s for sure.

I’m really happy to hear that things have improved somewhat, although it’s still not completely fixed. If you have a USB Mouse, can I ask that you first try swapping it to another USB Port, if it’s connected to a port at the front or top of your PC for example, or into a USB hub, please can you try plugging it directly into the back of your PC.

I know that you mentioned having recently reinstalling Windows, but it’s possible that missing or corrupted system files have persisted through the install. MMissing or corrupted system files may cause issues with Blizzard games. Run the System File Checker to scan for damaged or missing files in Windows.

Then, based on the LatencyMon result I would like to suggest that you consider updating to the Beta BIOS update for your Motherboard. Please be careful with this suggestion, updating BIOS is outside of our Scope of Support, and you should carefully review the following recommendation before choosing to go ahead with it.

(Note: To anyone other than the OP, the Motherboard BIOS update recommended here is for their specific PC, you would need to check your own Hardware Manufacturer and Model to determine if you can/should consider this yourself. Again, updating the BIOS is outside of Blizzard Scope of Support to assist, please review your Motherboard Manufacturer support for BIOS assistance)

RȂƗŊDǞŊĈȄ, your Motherboard and BIOS download page is ASRock B75M-GL R2.0. Please make sure that you review the “How to Update” very carefully, and consult with a local Hardware technician if you have any concerns.

I hope that the above suggestions help you, and best wishes!

I’ve tried all of the above sadly and without any improvements. I’ve now locked my framerate with Rivatuner statistics server and got 100% consistent frametime and the game looks much smoother which is good, but still experiencing the lag.

What could be the cause of the third SIM value spiking, if it’s not packet loss? I’ve checked with my ISP and they were able to confirm that packet loss isn’t the problem here.

What hardware could be causing this since it’s an issue all across the OS? Is there even such thing as ‘local’ packet loss?

How can the SIM value spike when I have 100% consistent frametimes with no dropouts? I thought SIM was bound to FPS?

Can there be an underlying problem that make OW’s network graph think there’s packet loss?

The SIM value seems to fluctuate when there’s lots of things happening on screen, when I use voice lines, or when I’m respawning. Notable is that I now get no frame drops whatsoever, but the mouse issue is still there and the character models/hitboxes are still floaty and extremely hard to hit! I can even see the character models of my teammates subtly lagging/jittering sometimes when standing up close.
