Framedrops and stutter on GTX 1660

Hello everybody,

I’ve recently upgraded my GPU from a GTX 780 to a GTX 1660. With the former, I got about 60-90 fps (depending on the gameplay situation), but never any noticeable stutter. It was just very smooth overall.

With my new GTX 1660 though, I’m getting about 90 - 160 fps on ultra settings (Vsync off, Frame cap at 300), but also extreme stutter whenever the frames drop. Raising or lowering the graphic settings does nothing and capping the framerate to a lower number unfortunately doesn’t help, either.

As I said, I’ve never experienced significant stutter in Overwatch before (played for about 1 1/2 years now), so I’m wondering why it is happening now with a better GPU. Other games run absolutely fine, just Overwatch does not.

I already tried all the usual troubleshooting (in-game, driver-related, etc.) suggested in various threads in this forum, but nothing helped so far. I’m at a total loss right now.

My specs:

CPU: i5-3570k @ 3,4 GHz
GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1660 Gaming OC (6 GB VRAM)
RAM: 16 GB DDR3 RAM
SSD: Samsung 850 EVO 500 GB
PSU: 600W be quiet!
Display: Acer XB241H 144 Hz (GSYNC being deactivated for Overwatch)

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi.
Did you remove the old graphics drivers when changing the graphics card to a new one?
I suggest you use DDU and remove all graphic drivers including Nvidia software. Then install the new drivers previously downloaded from the poducent page.

Yes, I did that (using DDU, too). Didn’t solve the issue, though.

I might add that I did a clean re-install of Windows 10 just before changing the GPU.

Can you temporarily uninstall the software GIGABYTE AORUS GRAPHICS ENGINE?

Done, but no change

Try to reset the game options (Blizzard App>Settings>Game settings). Also perform Scan & Repair option.

Did that, doesn’t help…as I said, I already tried everything suggested in the “Troubleshooting guide” referred to in this thread: Crashes? Performance Issues? Read this! - #12 by Hagut

Is the processor or graphics card overclocked?

No, everything is running on default clocks.

Is the Nvidia control panel in 3D settings management set to high performance for power management mode?
Do you have GameDVR turned off?

For a pclean Windows installation you have quite a lot of bugs related to other games.
Moreover, do you have installed Corsair software?
