With the direction the Devs seem to be going with Overwatch 2, altering a bunch of CC and readjusting their focus to be more FPS based,
I think it would be interesting to see Mei changed to be more of a Frosty version of McCree for projectile players?
As a Mei player (Ik hate me all u want) seeing the changes to freeze was a shock at first, but honestly, is a much needed change. Too many people currently play Mei, hold freeze without thinking, then get value from it and it is frustrating, not only to play against, but to watch.
Now with Freeze gone and the spray buffed to do more damage, I’m curious as to what direction they want to take Mei as a whole?
Do they want her to be like Symmetra and use the beam as a primary and icicles as a secondary,
Or do they want the icicles to be a primary and the beam a piece of utility?
Currently, any Mei player or high elo uses icicle as a primary. It’s only those who don’t really play Mei that really use freeze as a primary, even more so with the influx of players OW2 will receive. I’m worried this change will mean people will be more likely to hold freeze as it still requires less skill to get the same, more obvious value.
Personally, I’d rather see Mei’s not hold freeze at all and would rather see her played almost like a McCree, doing damage from range, but having something to deter people from coming too close.
Maybe take her damage per shot down but increase her fire rate to increase her overall DPS
Increase the projectile speed to make it more reliable to hit.
Something that pushes her towards that FPS playstyle blizzard seems to want, instead of a wall bot. After all, she does less DPS than mercy’s pistol currently… No one picks her for her damage lmao.
As for her abilities, I cannot see Mei wall being used in the same way “as often”. Sure walling the enemy Rein will always get value, especially as he won’t get any support from another tank and there’s less enemies to break the wall as quickly, but i don’t believe that the Devs want that playstyle to stay in for OW2.
If the game wants to move away from brawl and go towards flanking around the tank, like how Arron put it, I’m wondering if wall also needs a change to avoid overwatch 2 making the same mistakes as Live.
Make the wall 3 or 4 pillars instead of 5 to not take up so much space.
Make wall transparent/translucent, like Actual Ice! Even a version of the glass from the windows already in game.
It will incentivise the enemy to break the wall to help their teammates because they can see them on the other side.
She really needs something to makes it so her utility isn’t the only reason she’s played and so new players can figure out how to deal with her utility better.
I think it’s fun and games trying to put Mei into the tank category. But has anyone really considered trying to push her further into the DPS category???
Instead of being this failed defense role character, some weird Dps-Tank hybrid, where let’s be real, she doesn’t do either job well, make her do what a DPS should actually do. Damage!!!
I’m curious about peoples opinions on this. Obviously I’m slightly bias but then again who isn’t when talking about something they enjoy so any suggestions that improve this would be interesting to see
