This is a problem that I’ve had ever since first purchasing the game back in early 2017. The issue is basically that for the first game or games there’s unplayable lag. My suspicion all along has been that it’s assets and models being rendered in the background because it seemingly doesn’t go away with the solutions I’ve tried. I’ve seen many other people make posts about seemingly the same issue in the past.
Note: I am fully aware that this is most likely due to the limitation of my PC’s specifications. I am running it on a laptop that is not suited for graphics heavy games such as Overwatch. I rarely get over 30 fps but my system does seem to hold an average of 26-28 fps. Definitely not ideal for a highly competitive game like Overwatch but not bad enough for me to abstain from playing the game all together since I do seem to still perform admirable well and I almost exclusively play QP.
My sneaking suspicion is that it’s most likely a harddrive or possibly memory issue. I am not running on an SSD or even a perticularly fast harddrive. I do sometimes load into the practice range to try to counter this but it doesn’t seem to help even if I leave for 30 minutes and then come back and try to jump into a QP game. I still get lag. It’s also very unpredictable when it starts to even out, it can be half way through the first game or even during the 3rd or 4th game I play. I’ve tried checking Task Manager during these times but I almost never see my harddrive or memory be maxed out. This also just makes me wonder if it’s a graphics issue. My laptop doesn’t have a dedicated GPU and instead an AMD APU. APU is basically just a CPU and GPU combined into one.
Since this seems to be very tied into my computer hardware I’m not expecting a “fix” to the issue but I would like to know if there’s anything I can do to at least make it a lot better than it currently is. It has also gotten seemingly worse over time which points to some potential methods of improving it or restoring it back to a better state. Due note that some suggestions here have probably already been tried by me but I am happy with any suggestions I get so feel free to post any advice you know of!
I’m thankful for all the support I can get!
