Game runs on CPU causing FPS drops

Ever since the season 6 update I been experiencing the issue of my FPS randomly dropping. I used to have stable FPS from around 165 and now I get unstable FPS that averages around 140 but with lows around 70. Sometimes I not get above 90 even.

I did notice an improvement in the frames compared to the launch of season 6 since now but they are still dropping. (Right after launch it would go to 80 FPS and not even higher now it is mostly back to normal 165 but it still does random drops and after 3 ish matches it will go very unstable again)

Since I had this issue I been trying to figure out the cause and a solution and found that the game is running on the CPU instead of the GPU. So I tried to fix it by forcing it on the GPU (I used internet tutorials). After all that the game refuses to run on the GPU and stays running on the CPU, this is most likely the cause of the FPS drops and I don’t know how I can fix it at this point.
(I do have the latest drivers)

Specs:

  • Operating system: Microsoft Windows 10 Home
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1600 Six-Core Processor (6/12)
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 (8 GB)
  • RAM: 48GB
  • Monitor: Idek Iiyama North America, Inc. (1920x1080 / 24 Inch / 165 Hz)

Update(s):

  • 12/08/'23 - 19:40
I tested in other games and the GPU still get’s used on them. It is only Overwatch 2 with this issue.
  • 12/08/'23 - 21:50
I reinstalled the game and the issue is still ongoing.
  • 14/08/'23 - 16:00
After contacting support I got a response and after doing what they told me to do I noticed better FPS. I still do see some CPU usage but also an increase of GPU usage.
( Thanks for the help support team!)

I played the game a few times now and do notice less big fps drops and the game being more smooth. (The fix was disabling some background programs.)

Could you post the solution to the problem?

I had to disable some of the background programs. One of them was Razer (for my headphones) and I had to uninstall it. After that I noticed better FPS. Still not as stable as before but it was way better.

No you have the game running on a discrete graphics card, and you don’t have another one. And if the game will use CPU you will get about 0 fps

Most likely you have a shader compilation in progress and for some reason your shader cache is not working or it is corrupted or not up to date.
