I tested out the experimental card for a little bit now and it’s seriously ridiculous what changes they came up with for Genji.
People would probably call me bias but in my opinion taking opinions and thoughts from players who have invested hundreds of hours in the hero is a lot better than listening to small forum posts with complaints.
First of all with the nerfs
These changes may look okay considering this was what his old right click and damage looked like before they started buffing him but that’s the entire reason why this is bad, he’s going to lose a lot more 1v1s against heroes he’d be designed to “counter” (Of course player skill also comes in however that doesn’t matter if you can’t even finish off your kill by yourself again)
Therefore I’ve come up with other changes for him that might help “tone him down a little bit” which is not what happened here at all.
First changes (if they decide to keep the experimental card changes)
-
Shuriken Damage 30 -> 28
-
Right click recovery time 0.65 -> 0.75
-
Dragonblade Damage 120 -> 140
-
Dragonblade Duration 6 seconds -> 8 seconds
(They’ve basically nerfed him without giving him some compensation to make his other “weak” abilities a bit better, despite popular belief Dragonblade is near useless without a combo if the enemy team is well coordinated, so if they’re gonna turn him back into a bladebot you might as well buff it so it doesn’t require a combo.)
Completely new changes
-
Shuriken Damage 30 -> 28
-
Dragonblade Ultimate Charge decreased by 12%
-
Dragonblade Damage 120 -> 140
-
Right click spread 9 -> 10
-
Swift Strike Cooldown 8 seconds -> 6 seconds
(These changes are intended to nerf his strongest parts while also buffing his weaker parts to compensate for it. Reducing the shuriken damage might end up resulting in not being able to get the dash reset in some unfortunate situations so reducing the Swift Strike cooldown by 2 seconds gives him that extra escape tool in case he needs it while also providing more engages and damage so for that the Ultimate Charge is reduced by 12% to not make him not be able to get all his tools up too fast. Dragonblade could really use the extra damage considering how weak a raw blade can be however Ana might need some changes because of this.)
These are my thoughts and solutions on all of this, let me know other constructive opinions on these changes please!
Genji didn’t need a buff to begin with.

So you would’ve rather had him stay as a throw pick?

If in your hands it’s a throw pick the issue is with you. And don’t start with high top tier world championship statistics since you are not playing in that bracket.

I play bastion… yes thats right bastion… the biggest “Throw pick” there is…
he has never once had a significant buff that made him anything more than a throw pick (appart from that two weeks where he was actually useful years ago but was swiftly nerfed because of the crying of genji and tracer mains)
Genji has never been a “Throw pick” in the majority of the rankings he has always been overpowered “which is why he always picked on both sides”
he diddn’t need a buff, and he needs a far bigger nerf than what he got, if you’re not finding it fun playing him because you can’t get value out of him then its your problem because all other genji players can instantly wipe a team on their own
you either play him regardless like i do with bastion, or you play something else

Nothing wrong with picking the bast, he is a beast at holding choke points and depleting shields but when your hard countered by a cheeky reaper, phara or genji, then you are effectively putting your team a player down.
yes i know
but genji isn’t hard countered by anything, so someone saying he is a “throw pick” in any situation is an absolute joke
he may not be optimal, but he has never been a throw pick except for the highest levels of play when goats was a thing… every other bracket, including diamond where the OP is he is nigh unstoppable

Yes, you are biased. You know the hero only from one side while non-one-tricks know him from both sides. You’re doing the equivalent of saying “I’ve been to school for 12 years, so I know how to fix the education system”. Your intent is not to make things balanced, but to keep Genji Overpowered for the 23rd season in a row.

I’ve pretty much played in every single bracket except for Grandmaster-T500 on multiple accounts with multiple heroes that aren’t genji and I can safely say he’s fairly easy to counter if you know how he works. The way season 10 Genji until season 22 genji worked (when the buffs came) was very similiar to how Doomfist is right now where he can do good harm against unorganized teams that aren’t working together and aren’t trying to counter him.

nothing “counters” him and no (team play) is not a counter no hero should require the entirety of the enemy team to fully focus all of their attention on 1 hero for 20 seconds just to get rid of them
there are somethings that “hinder” him, but its always a “Skill” matchup… and it always heavily favours the genji, due to his hyper mobility, his 2 “get out of jail free” cards, his massive burst potential and his super skinny hitbox
a counter is X hero wins 90% of engagements against Y hero regardless of skill
like reaper vs winston, or mei vs wrecking ball, or sombra vs doomfist… if you get caught by your “counter” you will die 90% of the time
this never happens with genji, unless you make a massive miss step and have both your “invulnerability” and your “mobility” options on cooldown and are way away from your team
you are being bias, not wanting your favorite hero to get nerfed… as all genji mains ever do

Look pal… OW (and specifically Genji) isn’t rocket science, it’s fairly easy to get a grip of him, all the rest is about muscle memory and reflexes.

“my hero is the most mechanically elaborate character brought to existence and I deserve the right to fight every hero in equal ground at worst, manslaughter them without a chance to retort at best”.
You have another thread around saying he’s sad because he can’t scare away winstons and dvas 1v1.
No, just no.
PS: overwatch is a rich character based game, try other heroes maybe.

This is literally the very first thread I’ve wrote about him so lying isn’t gonna get you anywhere. I’m trying to please both sides (casual and competitive community) however that has clearly failed lol.
Also I like how you say that I should try other heroes when I’ve got 3 other accounts dedicated to other heroes, I’m literally more comfortable with Roadhog than with Genji and I’ve picked up the entire dps roster for competitive in case I need it. I’m just playing Genji in quickplay a lot cause it’s my own choice there on what I wanna pick considering it’s casual play.
Please don’t make up lies and state stuff that isn’t true. thanks
Genji never needed the buffs. So the tweaks back on the experimental are good.
He should, like all DPS, be a situational pick.
If any hero appears in nearly every match, there is an issue. Orissa and Sigma need tweaking next (well, mainly just Sigma), even as a tank player they are a bit daft atm.
i agree, but if experiment card goes live genji will be worse than his pre-buffed state, fire rate nerf reduces dps so much. They gave him 2, took 3. They are saying: here, you can deflect 0.5 seconds more and cancel it, but we will make you attack slower than scoped ashe AYAYA. which is a total joke
