Genuine question: How does the ban system work?

hiya!

I had a question to anyone who sees this.

One of my friends recently got banned (permanently) from Overwatch 2. She lost all of her cosmetics, her hours and her money due to the ban. She supposedly didn’t receive any email from Blizzard and appealed for the ban only for Blizzard to not tell her what happened and then break the news to her that they will not reverse the ban.

This whole situation got me thinking. How does this ban system actually works?

I do worry that my account may be at risk despite the fact i don’t talk in chat anymore nor use voice chat just because I play mercy - and I know there is some people who’ll go out of their own way to report mercy players just for existing. I also am a console player who plays on quite high sensitivity. I worry that people may have reported me before for this high sensitivity despite the fact that I don’t even know how a xim really works?

I’m not sure whether this is me overthinking everything or what, but if anyone knows anything about how the ban system works and what triggers someone to be permanently banned, then your response would be very appreciated!

(for more context, as far as I’m aware, I have never had an account warning nor been suspended!)

You always need to ask why you were banned. If you get the same answer again and again, keep asking until reasons and information are provided.

Assuming chat… Then a perma ban comes after multiple shorter suspensions…

Cheating will get you slammed without warning.

So a lot depends on what your friends email said. It is probably in a spam filter somewhere. But if you log in to the account on here you can go and see all the tickets and that will have the email sent somewhere.

I try. Not really bothered by the beef, if it makes them happy they can crack on.

It gets exploited by certain sad individuals. Automated mostly.
