so im the type of player to tell someone they are doing something wrong, i dont mean it as an insult of any kind i simply would like them to learn from theire mistakes, yet 7/10 times im told im reported , recenly i had a match with a lucio who did so many things wrong, boop a stuned target away, never use the healing ( or even stay with the group for that matter) and instead doing things like 1v1 a reaper. so during that match the things i said where : thx for killing me lucio . you do realise your a healer? , lucio your being dumb. and in the end 2 people told me they reported me. i mainly here to make people understand that saying something bad doesnt always mean its meant as an insult and that if your one of those who reports everyone who does something “wrong” in your opnion to ask you to stop because it only adds to the toxicisty this game already has
That’s not constructive criticism, that’s insulting.
If you said:
“Stay with your team so they get healed”
you wouldn’t be reported.
The main issue and reason you got reported is not what you said but how you said it.
Work on your wording and phrase bad things in a constructive manner. Only then, you’re safe from being reported.
I think that telling people how they could improve from there actions and trying to genuinely help them like you have said your trying to do is a good thing however most people/certain people could see this as you being rude or telling them they are bad so it’s just a thin line between trying to help someone improve and just being toxic which could get you reported for abusive chat it’s very blurry so just try to refrane from using “abusive” words like dumb (which you mentioned you said to the lucio who wasn’t in your opinion doing as good as he could be doing) so as long as you stay away from certain words and tell them that you are doing this in a positive mind set there shouldn’t be a problem this is my opinion let me know what you think
GMs have made it very clear to me - Don’t use the chat period. Only by not using the chat at all are you guaranteed to get unbanned/unsilenced whenever you make an appeal.
yeah i know but when your in the middle of a match it can get really anoying and you just want them to stop
Then just say “Stop killing me”.
Once you get destructive by calling someone dumb or using passive agressive comments, you are digging your own grave.
I call out stuff a lot and I get rarely reported, because I always try to:
a) stay positive and constructive (as already discusses by FBD)
b) acknowledge my own mistakes when they happen
c) start every game in voice and not just start talking when someone messes up
d) call out good performances long before I call out bad ones
Sure, it doesn’t always work, sometimes you get annoyed… but working on the right mindset helps a lot - with your own performance and with your team’s.
Well people report others for anything. Just don’t be a d### and you’ll be fine
There are neurotic people who report almost everyone everytime (for example after a lost match). This is part of their gameplay and everyone gets their share from these reports - for this reason this would be enough to get at most an average number of reports. Penalised people really like to pull this “you can get reported for anything” card but this usually isn’t what gets someone above average number of reports to trigger a penalty.
When is it meant to be an insult and how should I differentiate insulting and non-insulting bad things? I don’t want to see/hear anything bad in chat regardless if it’s meant to be an insult or not.
I never report people for being bad players (that isn’t a reportable offence) but I always report people for toxic chat (this one is a reportable offence).
Reporting toxic people isn’t toxic. It actually reduces the toxicity because of the silence penalties and eventual perma-bans if they continue the bad behaviour.
A few things you should know about the reporting system.
a) you can be reported for saying anything - it doesn´t have to be insulting or flaming anybody, if you write something, it can be reported
b) a single report doesn´t get you silenced or suspended, nor do 10 - a lot more (however how many remains secret to prevent exploitation) reports are necessary
c) when in doubt, don´t write anything
A GM wrote that. I take it you weren’t referring to GMs when you said “Penalised people” but me though, but my post shows just how wrong you are.
I think you misunderstood my post and quoted my statement out of context. I agree that you can get reported for anything but those reports get only an average number of reports for most players and those reports are relatively evenly spread across the playerbase. Those who get above average number of reports do something bad on a regular basis.
Some people fall as victims to false reporting but toxic people don’t belong to that group. Those who one-trick non-meta heros are a good example but one-tricking has always been a controversial topic.
Toxic people can avoid massive volumes of “abusive chat” reports only by not using the chat. Changing their behaviour and communication style would be an enormous task and I doubt they would be willing to do that. I wasn’t wrong in my previous post.
There’s a life lesson here; unless someone asks for your opinion, or you have a relationship of a type where you’re expected to give it, keep it to yourself. That goes for pretty much everything that isn’t actually harmful to someone.
What you’re saying is true. However, the way you worded your callouts was poor.
you get reported even if you say something like " sym you are useless"
Evident toxicity. Report why not.
Because we all know reports in OW are used to really helping improving the game and not as a personal little revenge on every BS.
Toxicity is against the rules and it is reportable as “abusive chat”. Something toxic people have in common: a lot of them don’t know what toxicity means and don’t see that they are toxic.
I report for a message like that even if I’m not the target (sym). I don’t see how that message improves the game, it’s simply a rude/impolite attack against another player. There are better ways to ask people to switch heros and they shouldn’t be attacked even if they refuse. According to the rules they have the right to play whatever they want.
The reports of those who get “little revenges” are likely to do nothing as those reports are spread across the playerbase increasing only the average reports/player. Misbehaving players are much more likely to attract above average volume of reports.
I’m pretty sure that it would be possible to detect most of those players too who abuse the report system and file a lot of false reports that trigger nothing in the end. This detection might actually be in place already.
If you are useless, i say you are useless.
Its not toxicity when it’s true.
These special snowflakes need to actually stop to be so heavily protected by blizzard.
Majority of people in this game, report better than they actually play the game.
Which is funny enough.
Why all get banned for chat stuff, and nobody for actually troll people and then keyword " just QP bruv" ?
It is toxicity if you say it that way but as I said toxic people don’t know what “toxic” means.
As I said those reports are likely to do nothing other than increasing the average received reports/player and the average volume is likely to trigger no penalties. If they detect serial false reporters too then the system might be even better. Let serial reporters enjoy their “mini game”.
According to the rules being toxic is an offence while being a bad player isn’t. If you aren’t a top500 player then you are also a bad player from the perspective of a lot of other players regardless if you say “it’s just qp” or not.
If you play a team game with random players and you expect good team mates then you already have unrealistic expectations and having bad team mates is your fault. If you want consistent good quality then recruit good players/friends. Having a lot of bad players in this game is actually a huge advantage if you play with regular good players/friends.
bad player is a thing, trolls and people that just wants to waste your time is another matter, and usually the latter category is the one that also fake report.
You waste your own time by playing with random team mates and I don’t know what’s your problem with fake reports when they do nothing.
Rude but true comments, like “You’re useless” have been debated before and, while most arguments got countered, only one argument has been stayed solid:
Rude but true comments shouldn’t be tolerated because the same context can be said in a respectful manner.
For example “Symmetra, you are useless” can be said as “Symmetra, I think a flanker could be effective right now, may you switch to Tracer, Genji or Sombra?”
