It honestly surprises me too that people don’t check for sombras. Anyone can see that i’m a sad mercy main, but i’ll always rather have a sombra in my matches than a tracer.
A tracer is near impossible to kill in the backline and can harass you forever. A sombra with low hp tries to run and get a healthpack. And an escaping sombra isn’t that hard to kill if you follow the direction she translocates to.
The only outplaying one needs with her is to either shoot her before the hack goes through, after which she’s easy to kill even if she viruses you, or you turn to face her and sidestep the virus.
Or play a hero that can easily spray a large are with bullets.
Reaper is good with that.
Even if you get hacked and virused, you will be able to wraith and self cleanse before you die. And prefelably you just turn and shoot behind you a few times when it feels like you haven’t seen a sombra for a hot second.
She does uncloak during the hack, unlike in her last iteration. The sound is also very clear, just have to tweak the audio settings to lower unessential sounds so you can hear footsteps and effects more clearly.
Sombra is not a problem right now, and even if she is nerfed, i’d only tweak the virus. Either lower the max damage of it, or slow the damage down.
To me it feels like people who complain about her just don’t check for her. Or just aren’t aware of their surroundings.
Or are tank players… For us,she is evil.
But you have 0.65 of a second to react to hacks, plus the 0.7 to uncloak. So 1.35 seconds to prevent the hack.
If you’re scouting, you can force her to path in ways that makes it even easier to track.
Ball is my main, so people swapping to Sombra is a constant annoyance to me. But if just means I adjust how I play it. Instead of odd angling and distracting and all that fun stuff. I sit with my team, wait to get hacked, then I’ve got 7-8 seconds to do my thing, then rinse and repeat. Just makes the game slower and more boring for me. I also spam shots around to scout her out, and chase her down when she’s low and translocates out.
If she’s a bad Sombra, and plays alone in the shadows, I’ll just go and take the 1v1. I’ll trust my aim to beat her.
Honestly, even if people don’t like it i tend to stick to mercy (unless spawncamped by a sombra with better aim than me, because it’s either her, moira or zen that i have the bet chance against her) and i tend to glue myself to a dive tank unless the dps need me (unless the other support is better for the job). So i even follow a ball during the first attack and as long as he’s close enough to the team that i can skedaddle if needed.
A mercy can still outheal a virus after all and gives that pseudo damage reduction during encounters that enables successful escapes at times.
(Because let’s be honest, her healing numbers aren’t enough to call healing during an open fight, especially to a tank health bar. But a damage boosted piledriver is still nice to see happen if the enemy is piled up and softened already.)
