I’ve had a lot of toxicity from healers over the past year or two, and it’s getting stupid.
People tend to have a lot of preconceived notions about Genji players, but I literally stick next to my healer, kindly ask them for a bit of support and if they don’t heal me I turn to healthpacks most of the game. But it feels like I’m playing outside the rest of the team most of the games at this point because people have decided to just ignore Genji players.
I know this because when I switch to anything else, they suddenly start healing me.
This time I entered a game and decided to be very upfront and said:
“I’ve been having a hard time with this community lately and i just wanna ask head on.
Are the healers gonna ignore me the entire game when i’m right next to them this match?”
I got “kys” and “yes” as a response. I left the match.
I’m expected to perform perfectly at all times or I get trashtalked, but I have to run across the map to find healthpacks constantly with an already squishy hero that people like to target.
Then when you ask someone if they’re ignoring you they bring up your dps stats, which is also kinda toxic, and can’t be helped considering while a lot of the gameplay comes down to strategy and target focus rather than pure dps and numbers.
But if I question the healers once, when they literally ignore me the entire match, I get trashtalked for it.
Is it supposed to feel like this playing a team game? Wtf?
Oh wow, i’ve only twice ran into supports like that. It’s really rotten luck there and i would have reported the “kys” since stuff like that is not a joke.
Sometimes when a tank is in the middle of a brawl i ignore the dps since even blinking could mean the tank dies, but other than that it is a support’s job to support their whole team.
(Unless they’re an entire map away or in a position where going to heal them would kill me in turn. But i’m sure that anyone above bronze knows that)
If they do bring up the damage numbers, it’s worth for them to know that those numbers would be higher if you didn’t need to run off to find a healthpack every other second.
Exactly what I’ve been trying to say but it seems I get landed assholes every match some days and yesterday was not a great day for me… It sucks to not have friends to play with that won’t tell you to “kys”. I did report it, but I’m so tired of the overwatch community.
There’s usually at least one person that’s a rotten egg in the game, while also playing like an actual egg themselves…
I heal too and I know full well as a dps I have to make myself visible and that sometimes they’re too busy, there’s just sth about the entire game not even being glanced at or when they do they still don’t heal you.
When I heal and the tank is throwing himself into the fire I heal the dps instead until he comes back and learns not to put the rest of his team in a bad spot.
Sometimes the dps actually pick up his slack.
Sometimes i get crapped on for not healing enough, but those are usually the games when one or both of the enemy dps are flankers and are just making my life miserable the entire game.
I try to play a bit of bodyguard to my supports when i’m playing anything else and see flankers on the enemy roster.
Sometimes it’s not possible, but it’s always satisfying to bully a flanker to swap.
I try to defend my healers a lot because I know some games they get stalked by the enemy dps. But it’s a bit disappointing when you try to play like a team player and peel for the healer and then they don’t heal you at all. I just do it anyway when I can because that’s how you’re supposed to do it, but I can’t peel for them when I’m several walls away to find a healthpack not to die again.
Edit: I know people often tend to assume the dps was at fault but I literally once had a Mercy tell me “it’s nothing personal, I just don’t like Genji”. So she gave me a hard time because of that…
I’m glad that you do try, too few people actually do.
It’s silly to decide to not heal someone based on what hero they play as, especially since as a mercy it’s easier to heal genji than as an ana or baptiste for example.
I only decide to not heal someone if they’re getting no value at all. And just as a hint for them to swap
no value meaning that we’ve played for 3 minutes and they only have 300 dmg and 1 elim done while we’re attacking. But this is only valid if the rest of the team is doing at least somewhat better. (There can be games where there are only 3 elims put together on the entire team. At that point the 1 elim is getting pocketed)
One of the problems I see here just by reading your post is that you call them “healers” and expect them to be “healers”. There’s no Healers in this game, at all. There’s supports. As I play support I try to enable the strongest hero and/or player on my team, and disable the same on the enemy team. In many cases that does not include my or their DPS player, but it may be our or their tank / support. Hence I will leave my or their DPS to take care of them self. Sadly though, alot of Overwatch DPS mains are entitled and think they are the main character of the show.
Sure I can see what you mean, but when I heal, I tend to at least try to heal everyone so they get a fair chance to come back even if they had a really bad start to the game.
Things happen really quickly in Overwatch, and it only takes an unlucky death the first fight to have less than 300 dps in the first minute and if that dictates how your team plays with you the rest of the gameplay that just sucks.
Your argument automatically becomes invalid when you don’t heal one specific person on the team because that will force them back to spawn in which they can’t get any value. This is the problem I see when reading comments from people like you who think you get to decide who gets to be in the game and not. It’s selfish and dumb.
Adding to that you make claims people think they’re the main character, just because they wanted the team to play as a team… Yeah, work on your reading comprehension.
Speaking as a healer, having a genji on your team is a very big risk/reward. Its a risk because healing you means taking a big risk jumping into the middle of the teamfight. And secondly healing a genji is so annoying with your double jumps, dashes and wallclimbs.
If i see a genji thats low on health that i cant reach with my heals im not going to be waiting for the second that you are in my los to start healing you because i have no idea where you are going to be dashing, jumping or wall climbing to next. In that situation its more important to heal the tanks that are in my los, statistically are more valuable alive than a genji, and are actually fighting on the objective.
Tbf as you should be doing considering you spend most of your time behind enemy lines and out of los from your healers.
When somebody does this you can tune them out for the rest of the game imo. My favorite is when tanks trashtalk dps players that they do more dmg than them. 70% of genjis power comes from his ultimate and the rest comes from assasinating backlines so you are not playing reinhardt that is constantly spamming left click and doing 100 dmg every 2 secs.
In this instance the topic was about healing a genji right next to you.
You are very right though, with quite a few supports healing a bouncy genji is difficult. That’s why the so called “no aim” healers are better at supporting him than an ana for example.
A zenyatta working with a genji is a deadly combination with both harmony and discord juggling.
Kiriko, moira and mercy are also good at keeping a genji alive.
Moira can finish off what ever is left after genji and a mercy can literally follow him everywhere.
I’ve gone against several deadly genji kiriko combos that just decimate my team from behind, causing my tanks to tilt because their team keeps “abandoning” them.
Hard to heal from spawn XD
the thing is this, most of the time people are toxic because of something and that might mean they see a lot genjis that act badly and therefore they carry that chip on their shoulder towards genji players in general.
but sometimes they are just toxic themselves and will only heal you if you are doing good because to them genji is just such an OFF or ON character, either you’re killing their whole team or you’re just fumbling around like a drunk in darkness.
ofcourse there might be other reasons but these two are the big general ones i saw quite frequently, another one that kinda is common is if a genji is trashtalking at all be it their team or one of their teammates a support will just not stand for it and just flat out refuse to approve of such behaviour and they show their disgruntledness with withdrawing their healing.
but yeah, just be a good boy and don’t fall into this toxic trap of blaming this or that, it’s gonna be whatever it is gonna be, i know it’s hard and it’s frustrating.
but as i see it, it’s an excellent time to practice stoicism.
I hear what you say and I understand, but I also see you making the assumption I’m not going to be on point. Sure if my team isn’t there yet I might have to dash in and out or play around corners as well as flank a bit because I have to, but I’m personally not that far across the map somewhere unless I need to kill a sniper that’s clicking a lot of heads.
And yes, Genji’s are unpredictable and hard to aim at, I more have a problem with people not trying when I’m right by them asking. Which isn’t everyone, but lately I’ve had a hard time with it and a lot of toxic words thrown around.
This is so true. With Genji the stats aren’t really that important. Even the top 500 Genji’s have games where they have lower stats because the game just required more sneaking and strategizing and picking off the right targets at the right time in order to win rather than full out dps.
As a dps that tends to have to say you can’t do dps from spawn, I feel you very much on this. xD I will sometimes have the same issue when I’m a healer.
I’m at least glad I’m not having as much toxicity at the forum today as I’ve had before and in game.
Regardless of how toxic people are to me almost every game I play, I don’t hold that kind of attitude towards anyone I new in my games. This isn’t how you handle past experiences, you don’t unload your feelings on a new person that didn’t do anything.
Edit: I’m getting sicked with “awaiting approval” for whole days so new people have written while I’ve been waiting to have my response approved.
same.
but yeah no, you can’t assume everyone is levelheaded and mature about this sort of thing especially in games. to some degree if you play online you have to just understand that this sort of thing might happen and just deal with it if you wish to play the game.
like there is only so much devs can do, the rest is just up to the people playing the game themselves.
personally i love healing genjis as ana cause i practised my aim specifically for that in a workshop lol its hard to hit genjis but some people just dont wanna practise it or deal with it thats why moiras n zens or mercys are your best options but i think youre having awful luck with teammates
But I do get to choose. As I support I know what the win conditions are, which is the whole point of the support role. I know who I need to prioritize to win. And it is not always the Genji that spams “I need healing”.
