How bad is cheating in OW2 atm?

This week, I saw two healers (Baptiste and Illari) doing some very fishy stuff in replay. Baptiste had aim like a God and kept tracking targets out of line of sight (blocked by obstacles) and while jumping and shooting with as much precision as the current distance to the target allowed.
On the other hand, he really struggles to gren-heal his still-standing teammate 10m away… (no hitscan)

The Illari player had some kind of “snapaim”. The crosshair jumped to target only on shots. Partly out line of field of view (like 90° and more to the side). Same for healing targets but with far more narrow target zone.

Reported both after watching them closely in replay. Had another suspect, but the replay footage looked like solid skill.

If you ask the forums, there will be certain people who tell you it is an absolute epidemic ruining every game…

The reality… The are about, the chances of you encountering one, are slim. Not zero. Just slim.

The system catches obvious offenders. But like a GM friend of mine said the other day, they would never catch me if I used hacks/cheats. Map hacks, hard to catch unless you auto lock onto ppl behind walls or hidden sombras.

I would suggest 1 in 20 games you will have a cheater but their impact will be minimal, like having a smurf knowing what they are doing is way more likely to ruin your day.

Even if OW went the valorant way of Kernel 0 observing, and for me personally thats a big NO NO, you dont get that priviledge be a smarter programmer pls. You could still virtual machine and overlay a hack on top of it.

Yeah, the current anti cheat systems and processes are ok. Not amazing, but ok. They did say recently they have things coming soon. Like being able to ban XIIM devices on consoles.

I suspect it is a big Blizzard soon, so 2026… but we can hope.

I personally don’t think cheating is a huge issue for most players. Like the highest ranks will always have an issue, because that is where people are cheating to get to ultimately. Lower down, you might see one occasionally, but nothing major.

Playing from Gold to Master across all roles and open queue, I have seen 1 cheater since OW2 launched. So I count myself pretty lucky.

Yep, also I think its more of an issue on the US servers, from what I gathered.

Had a cheating Mei 2 weeks ago, playing on a fresh account of mine, said “you are ruining the fun for yourself”, he even said “sry” shut down their cheats and we had a pretty fun close match. Didnt report, it boils down to the individual as well.

Same with any game. Egos are fragile, they feel like they need to impress people, cheat to make them selves look better than they are.

I just pity them honestly.

Honestly I might have encountered a new hack, as soon as you focus on a target your hero looks on the ground or sky and makes 360 spins, what is happening?

yes there is a new hack apparently, ugh

infested with aimbots. Also sometimes they even group as aimbot party.
