People haven’t been able to swap their forum profile pic for almost 5+ years if memory serves me right.
I don’t expect them to fix it anytime soon, either…

Well, if people stop buying player icons it might be something they end up fixing 
People buy player icons? i thought its just something you get from bundles, challenges and BP. I know you can buy it but surely people dont spend money just for icons?

You’d be surprised at what people spend money on.
Been broken for years. I don’t think Blizzard even intend on fixing it. (typical)

Most of the new icons aren’t available on the forums.
Pick an old one. Log out, log back in and it updates.

In game. Pick an old icon in game. Then log out and back in in the forums. And eventually it’ll change.
The new icons don’t work on the forums, because blizzard are a bit slow to do anything (and people legitimately think they can rig games lol)
Sorry for the (slight) Necro but I submitted a ticket for this very issue and Game Master Benoekaata asked me to post a reply on this thread so the developers can track it.
I’ve attempted the above suggestions of changing my Player Icon in Overwatch (PS5) using one of the older icons which should be compatible, logging out/in on the forums and waiting for it to refresh, but it just does nothing. I’ve tried multiple Player Icons and nothing works.
It’s not the end of the world, but it seems pretty dumb that it either doesn’t sync automatically or doesn’t allow you to just modify it in your account settings on the forum like any other normal forum.
Here’s hoping they actually do something about it and bring these forums to the 21st century.

That explains. Well the logging in and out doesn’t do anything. Guess we are all stuck with an old avatar xD
Update: apparently my old avatar just changed after I replied to this post (used to have dva gold icon). Not sure what’s going on but my profile got a whole reset as if I am registered just a moment ago, while that’s not true. Very odd.
It used to. But when they updated the forums last year that “feature” was either removed or broken.
If you pay attention, you can see they care less and less about this place. And it was a pretty low level of care to start with.
@Oshinigami @ShiroKitsune it is possible to change your icon but you have to clear your browser cache and cookies and even then, it sometimes takes a while. The method for clearing your browser cache depends on the browser but for example:
- Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Clear history
- Edge: Settings > Privacy, search and services > Clear browsing data
Clearing data usually has granular controls so make sure to clear all data (not only yesterday for example).
Do note that you might have to log in to some sites again, so if you didn’t save your credentials somewhere safe it is not advisable to clear cache.
