What’s the compiled information of how QP match making works? Is it a pure MMR system with win/loss/opponent MMR as factors? Or does it work differently, ie more/other factors? If yes, do the MMR update after each game? If you once get into some MMR bracket, is it hard to fall off it? Is hero choice a factor? Is SR a factor?
EDIT 3: Please read the edit in order of number: So read “EDIT” before “EDIT 2” which you read before “EDIT 3”.
EDIT 2: Or is this game that dead that I’m the only one below level 20 in EU? Or how come I don’t get matched vs. them? They don’t exist?
EDIT: The reason I ask is that I have ~80% loss rate at level 14. I’m constantly matched against players who have at least 5000 hours and 3 years experience in this game. I’m trying to trick the system so that I get into a fair playing field. It’s sad that you have to trick it just to get 50% loss rating.
EDIT4: can you gain mmr by losing or lose mmr by winning?
Play more. Your MMR will increase in accuracy and you will get “fairer” matches.
Although QP in general is not balanced. It’s named Quick Play because it tries to get you a match quickly, while making the average team MMR comparable.
There is no SR difference limit. You can have a 1000 SR player and a 3000 SR player in one team, and the matchmaker then tries to balance it somewhat by say - putting a 1200 and 2800 in the other team, or three 2000 SR players.
However, if you then end up with a 3000 SR DPS playing alongside a 1000 SR support, that team has big advantage over a 1000 DPS and 3000 support.
Furthermore, “winning” or “losing” in QP is meaningless, since you only play one round (the exception is the Control mode, which works like it does in comp). Overwatch is a race against the clock for the attacker, the defender has to try to stall as long as possible, and then get a faster time when it’s their turn to attack.
For example, pushing the payload all the way to the end of Havana is pretty difficult, since the defenders have an increasing advantage the closer the payload is to the end. If the defenders stop the payload 1cm before the finish in overtime, it counts as a “loss” for the attackers; even though it’s probable that the attackers would have been able to stall the payload more.
So, as I said, just keep playing, and once you reach level 25, get into competitive, you will have more balanced games.
As said. More games = more accurate MMR and in theory the matchmaker will be more accurate.
Sadly though, a lot of people don’t really care yo play QP games even remotely “correctly”, so the games will alwaysbe a bit of a clown fiesta… in both open que and role que.
Sadly the one mode to go play for “fun” in just isn’t that fun sometimes.
qp isnt dependent upon your mmr or rating .it will get you in the matches quickly .that is the aim of it
This is incorrect. MMR is the score it uses. Just no one knows what there MMR is.
If you play enough games though, and play consistently across QP/Arcade and Ranked. Your MMR won’t be a million miles off your SR.
then why do gold’s get matched with masters in QP…
skye is correct, QP is only interested in getting you a quick match, with as “even matched players as possible” but this is secondary
They have close matched MMR then
yeah no… gold and masters do not, and should not have a close matched MMR
MMR is not SR.
But you do you my friend.
Doesn’t it just do the best it can as quickly as it can. I play mostly QP or Mystery Heroes and I hate to wait so I just take the rough with the smooth. Some games are really good and well contested while others are a stomp, some you win and some you lose, c’est la vie.
A little. But its based off your hidden MMR.
To be honest I like it when I get matched up with higher skill players, makes a change and I find it sometimes improves my play a little. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. My glass is always half full
Yeah. Exaclty what QP should be for. Playing different people and learning new things.
SR is calculated to be as close to MMR as possible… thats what the match maker tryed to do in comp…
so no, again you are wrong, a gold should never have the same, nor similar MMR… ever…

Initially, when you are first placed. This is 100% correct.
After that they do their own thing. But tend not to go massively apart, because somehow the SR system is surprisingly accurate (unless you go out of your way to manipulate it).
My SR currently has me in gold/plat.
My MMR has me in diamond tank games and plat for the rest.
So it isn’t really that far off. Just I’ve played badly in ranked recently and lost too many games. Until this last couple of nights. 16-4 in the last 2 night. Nice to claim back the SR I lose filling and playing badly.

Why? When I have a bot here to inaccurately inform of this?
so thats why you’re always wrong, you take your opinions from an AI instead of forming your own opinions… interesting
Oh. No I was saying you play like a bot, that’s why you cant kill a Genji… turn a game around… beat someone better than you… and so on.
no thats because of smurfs and cheaters, told you that already
