Can someone please explain how does rank system work? As in how do you get your first rank in the first season of comp and what affects it? Maybe to understand what I mean, here is my situation. My friend and I were playing the new comp mode 4x4 team fight together. We end up having 5 wins ans 5 loses. I got a platinum for that. While my friend got silver.
Also explain please what do you need to do in order to get to GM straight after your 10 qualification matches? Or is it totally random?
Your rank depends from your internal MMR, taken from normal Comp and or QP if you didnt play comp much.
Basically it depends who you beat and the system estimations on your winning. If you destroy GMs, then you will get GM, if you destroy plats, your rank is plat.
You can climb and the more you win, the more your internal MMR grows and more points you get per victory.
Even before you do any comp, there is MMR, a hidden ranking which is determined by your skill (or at least the way Blizzard sees your skill). Now we distinguish between regular ranked mode and special ranked modes:
- Regular ranked:
1.1. First time you do your 10 placements, your MMR will be slightly adjusted to bring you do your SR.
1.2. SR changes +/- 20-30 every game
1.3. Every new season you get 10 new placements where that work like in 1.2. but you won’t start from last season’s SR but rather a mixture between SR and MMR. - Other ranked modes
2.1. Like 1.1. and 1.2.
Below 3000SR (platinum and lower) the system uses PBSR (performance based skill rating). Your performance is compared to other players who played the same hero in similar situations.
PBSR can be observed not only in placement matches but also in ranked games too: In case of defeat you lose less SR if your performance was good and in case of victory you gain more. For this reason wins and losses aren’t the only factor. After 2 matches that happen to be one win and one loss you can have a few SRs more or less than the initial SR depending on your performance. For this reason you can slowly climb or derank even with a win ratio that is exactly 50% although your win ratio is likely to be below or above 50% if your SR doesn’t reflect your actual skills. Your performance can be inconsistent and/or suffer if you are flexing a lot and not playing your best heros all the time.
Your MMR is still gonna be based on performance tho.
