Hey, sometimes I feel like I make a really good play, resulting in our team WINNING the game, but it doesn’t end up being play of the game, even worse, the enemy team gets play of the game, despite losing the game. Should PLAY OF THE GAME not only be from the winning team? A losing team might have good plays but it will never be play of the game, as they lost…? Just me?
Losing teams can have potg, as they might have done a really clutch play at some point of the match.
There are several teamfights in a match after all.
For instance, if a dva bomb kills the entire enemy team, resulting in them capturing the point. Shouldn’t that deserve the potg status?
Even if that same team ends up losing the match, as long as the other team doesn’t manage plays more impressive than that, it’s still the potg.
That actually happened to me once on busan meka base.
The point was just captured on 99/99 after a long fight.
Enemy dva dashes and sends her mech to the point, we kill the baby dva before she lands.
The surrounding walls go down and my entire team dies.
That moment was the potg even if the dva’s team didn’t get the point as they were all still on their way from their spawn.
POTG mainly occurs during a multikill+ scenario. But then booping 2 people off a cliff is considered POTG material as well.

Enviromental kills are generally favoured as potg material as they can be difficult to pull off.
It was mentioned at some point 4 or more years ago.
I don’t know why they would do that though, as a single enviromental can be very underwhelming when compared to a multikill.
Thanks for replies! I understand, it just seems weird that a losing team gets play of the game. Sometimes I feel bad for getting Potg when losing the match knowing there were several plays on the enemy team that actually led to them winning. Hence why I thought it would make sense only to be eligible for potg if you’re on the winning team.
Basically Lethal has nailed it.
But I also agree with this. To me, no matter what you do, if you lose, your play wasn’t good enough. Probably in the minority thinking that though.
