Hello guys, Just a quick question about how blizz deal with people reported for racism.
I reported several player for various racist slurs/jokes with some hate speech sprinkled on top. I received an email saying thanks for reporting them etc but it mentioned nothing specific about who or what i reported really it was just seemed like an automated response.
I would like some proof that these players have been banned, I don’t feel confident they have tbh. Is there some way to check if a player has been banned from the game?
People come on this with their kids to play this sort of abusive behavior shouldn’t be tolerated, thanks for the help

No, you don’t get to have one. It’ll only inflate your ego and you’ll start reporting more and more people to see if you’ll ban them.

I think it depends on what you say and how you say it.
If you insult someone very very bad they will ban you a lot quicker then if you say sometimes fk you (normal insult)
First of all, all slurs are treated equally, no matter if its racist, sexist, a real life threat, etc. An instult is an instult and thus you will be penalized for insulting someone. This is not about how Blizzard deals with racism but rather how blizzard deals with rude and offensive behavior.
Also, the report system works fully automatig so once enough players report someone, they will get penalized. Judging from your e-mail, there is a high probability that the player got penalized.

I’m talking about racist insults /slurs and jokes and various other hate speech.
Im not talking about someone calling me fat, I’m not talking about some kid getting a little mad or stressed out their box after getting torb hammered to death. I’m afraid we dont have ego’s where i come from we very much underplay everything we achieve, but having some sort of confirmation that known racist players have been banned can only help the community and my ego would be the same size as it was at the beginning, my faith in blizz would be somewhat inflated though.
If players have no idea if the players behaving like this are being dealt with how can this help the community beat toxic players?
When participating in communication of any kind (chat, voice communication, group finder), you are responsible for how you express yourself. You may not use language that could be offensive or vulgar to others.
Hate speech and discriminatory language is inappropriate, as is any obscene or disruptive language. Threatening or harassing another player is always unacceptable, regardless of language used. Violating any of these expectations will result in account restrictions. More serious and repeated violations will result in greater restrictions.
This is blizzard code of conduct regarding communication.
if thats the case, then why have i reported people for calling people offensive words… words which cant be used in forums and nothings been done about it???
i dont think it should work like that if im honest… if someones being toxic or offensive or throwing matches, then they need to investigate it.
Both of those are very subjective, meaning there’d be too much reports to go through.

When penalized, you can appeal to lift the penalty. A game master will then investigate and check wether the penalty was justified or not.
In the company’s point of view, investigating every report would cost time and money. Instead, they penalize automatically so they only need to investigate on those players who think their penalty wasn’t justified.
While having its flaws, it’s currently one of the cheapest yet most effective report system.

So there is no real way to see if the racist players are still allowed to continue playing really? We have to trust an automated program? I can understand its helpful dealing with small complaints, but surely racism etc are top of the list for inappropriate behavior and hopefully not many cases happen so they should be dealt with by a person.
Maybe if they named and shamed the racist’s it would clean the game up abit.
Racism isn’t being rude, its hate speech.
I’ll open a ticket and ask if they can tell me if the racists i reported have been banned, hopefully they can shed some light on it.
They are just words, they only have an affect if you allow them to through your own weaknesses, I don’t agree with racists but people say stupid things, it’s life.
Automated system relies on quantity, so if no one else has reported or the quota of reports has not been reached then I don’t believe anything will happen to them, mute is there for good reason.

People choose to play the game, isn’t like they are forced to play OW and then have to deal with problems, you can remove yourself from “harm” by not playing the game if it is that bad.

Well, there’s only the “thanks for reporting, one of your reports has lead to a ban” message.
I wouldn’t like specifics - for one, I don’t even remember all my reports by name, and also I feel that it makes it more about revenge than justice.
Wow im shocked at how passive people are to hate speech, its nothing to do with revenge or being weak, its about not letting hate filled people ruin others gameplay.
Seems weak on your part, spineless bystanders allowing them to continue playing and being abusive, racists should never be tolerated.

This place(like any MP game) is very toxic,get over it.I been called everything from id!ot to f@g.But mostly everyone here arent @ssholes.If you dont like to see insults and things like that then turn on the profanity filter in the social tab in the options
I see, if its this wide spread and seemingly tolerated i cant allow the kids to continue playing. I had hoped it would be as well managed as WOW, any time Ive encountered racism etc a GM talks it through with you and solves the issue. This should be an 18 rated. If the ticket doesn’t help ill have to get a refund, shame the games fun generally.
If you report, they get banned, racism is not allowed in any situation
You dont even have to type anything when you report someone.
The report system is fully automated system.
Only when you complain about a penalty they will investigate.
The amount of players/reports are just to many for blizzard to all investigate.
They already probably have like a 100 people on payroll to handle the investigations of players who think they were banned for no good reason.
If they would check every ticket then they would take a few 1000 people extra to do the job.
