I know that mcree is a direct counter to pharah, but no matter how much I dodge or how much I try to flank him he just 2 shots me everytime.
I just wanna know more from the expierenced pharah players, as im also trying to main her.
Thank you

He needs 3 body shots or 2 hs, you need 2 rockets.
He needs to actually be great at aiming, you don’t.
He needs to be close to you to deal decent dmg, you don’t.
Hitscan heros are strong counters against pharah. You can’t really counter them but if your skill level is much higher then you can survive and perhaps kill them in some cases. There are a lot of bad hitscan players so you can still capitalise a lot on mastering pharah. Your enemies are random teams of 6 and there is a chance that none of them is good with hitscan.
As pharah you either have to fly very high (outside of the mid-range of mccree) or have to fire from locations (perhaps ground, from top or inside of buildings) where you can go to cover immediately after firing a rocket at the enemy. On some maps this can be very effective (e.g.: Dorado). It’s a good idea to follow this principle while flying too. It’s beneficial if you can drop behind a cover quickly if necessary, position yourself on the map accordingly.
Most pharahs in gold and plat are bad and I can destroy 90% of them as mccree. If a pharah flies high and/or uses pharmercy then I switch to widow to hunt her down.
In case of 2-shot kill only one of them has to be headshot. However a decent mccree accuracy is only ~50% with ~10% critical hit accuracy. The accuracy is somewhat better against pharahs because they are very exposed in the sky and move on more predictable trajectories than others on the ground.
you are not supposed to counter him, its the other way around.
Train your aiming, bad mccrees will then still die to Pharah.

Trying to counter a Hitscan as Pharah is not what I would consider a fun time.
If you have hitscans giving you problems as Pharah, it’s time to switch. Unless you have a good Mercy pocketing.
Most games these days seem to be the other way around though. DPS who don’t know how to deal with a good Pharah, and me being Zarya can’t do much either.
Yesterday in one game, 3 times the enemy Pharah barraged all of us right behind us around 10m up in the air. I got tired of asking our DPS to watch the skies.
I agree, but first:
pharah rockets are not hitscan, and splash damage does not deal alot to him. if you are too close to him, chances are at enemy advantage, even higher if they receive alot of heals.
Second: mcree still has better accuracy for hitting pharah from either long or short range because pharah rockets take time to reach him and she must predict the movement (unless close range) while mcree just needs to aim at target and deal damage. GOOD mcree can predict the rockets and dodge them succesfully and harass pharah. btw it goes to all hitscans out there that can deal consistent damage from afar (soldier, widow, bastion, ana etc). and third: even though mcree deals less damage the further you are from him, he can do great damage if he gets all the shots on pharah and causes her to fall back and ask for heal or find medkit, and then the same thing repeats, including the other hitscans that enemy has. The last part is from my own experience. I really like to play pharah but the amount of punishment for flying under someones head is just frustrating and I cant do nothing about it because every game there is atleast one hitscan whether its mcree or another they will chase me down till im clean dead so I always have to switch to tank or another dps for this reason.
Either wait for flashbang to go on cooldown and attack him at point blank, attack him from a severe vertical angle, or spam from a distance
It depends on the map, but on average, you need to use the scenery to sneak close (sliding along roofs makes no sound) and then surprise him from an angle he doesn’t expect with two quick direct hits.
Trying to engage mccree at long range is a bad idea in general since he is way deadlier at range than he used to be and its easier for him to aim at long range.
Mcree counters phara only on certain ituations, and in certain maps countering her as him is next to impossible, soldier do it easier and in more situations.
Besides, new pharah is a machine gun, its way easier to hit ppl with rockets.
Personally i find easier killing pharah as ana considering she does 70 dmg like cree with no dropoff.
let me tell you something, which is hard for a lot of people to accept in this game if you are a good pharah and they have mcree and soldier on their team u should switch and save urself the trouble.
if u are doomfist or genji and they have a hog, a brigette and a sombra switch.
you dont have to be able to beat your counters to be an amazing player. you can just be smart enough and save yourself a lot of trouble.
I have a lot of respect for exp for doomfists who still manage to kill a flying pharah but why go all the way if u can do it with 2 shots and a mcreee. same with mcree if you can beat him with a mcree why pick pharah … you know what i am saying
Your best bet is to swap, but if you really want to, you could try to move unpredictably and shoot him down before he shoots you
I ask the D.va in my team to help and focus the McCree. If there isn’t one, I switch. I respect my counters.
You can use team play to an extent but expecting Pharah to counter Mccree/Widow is a bit to much. Dva or Zarya bubbles to let you close up and secure buddy hits with the rockets can help you burst them.
But its just best to swap to something that doesn’t waste team resources to not be countered by something.
