TL;DR Another player reks you every time. How do you handle it?
So I’ve been working a lot on my anger when losing in this game, in any game mode. During this process I’ve noticed there is a special case that really sets my saltiness to unhealthy levels: getting repeatedly eliminated by the same enemy player. I usually play support and often I can’t change character in order to counter this player without ruining for other players on my team. Sometimes I even switch to a counter anyway but still get completely destroyed. This really makes my head go red of anger, sometimes making me toxic or even leave the game. I hate that and I want to improve and enjoy the game. So my question is: how do you handle these situations?
I know I can ‘git gud’ and stuff like that but I’m looking for a real discussion and advice here. I’m genuinely curious of how other people handle it.
P.S Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
You ask your teammates for help
It really depends on what hero is killing you repeatedly. Each one will have counters, some can be countered with a healer but others can’t be and you need to ask your team for help. E.g. if you’re getting rekt by a Widow, I don’t think there’s anything you can do as a healer except crouch, strafe erratically and hide - basically you have to ask your team for help in this case. If it’s a Tracer that’s jumping you, you can switch to Brigitte or Moira and smoke her fairly easily.
That being said, some enemy heroes are just too good or your team is just too bad and nothing helps. I’ve had games where I repeatedly asked for someone to do something about the Widow, either tank dive her or out-snipe her and no one did. I’ve tried to deal with her myself - e.g. I’ve gone Ana and killed her, used Mercy’s Ult to fly to her and headshot her or discorded her as Zen. I DID kill her and remove her from the equation. But as healers are not supposed to be doing damage and their healing drops off if they try, so their team ends up dying, in those times I described where I tried to do something, the games were always lost in the end.
Yes, I certainly understand your point. But what I meant with this post was about how to handle the frustration of being completely destroyed by another player rather than the actual countering.
I just take a deep breath and remind myself it’s just a game. I know, it’s probably not what you are looking for, but that genuinely how I stay calm when I am being wrecked… which is more often than not

Report them, how else.
Handle? Whatever you do, there are people more successful at it than you. But there are also people who are less successful than you. The sooner you understand and accept that, the better for you…

I tend to take regular breaks between serious matches.
Or go Arcade for a few rounds to loosen up.
Just leave the Match and play a better game
As Ricochet has already said. The best way is to acknowledge that is just a game. Play for fun and be conscious that probably the player that keeps killing you is having the fun of their life. Probably the next match will be more fun for you. If not, quit. If you aren’t having fun playing you should always quit (after a match, obviously, not in the middle of it). Relax for a bit, maybe for the rest of the day, and the next time you play you will have fun again.

Well as a Tracer main, i usually blame myself all the time, i understand that a support might feel powerless here as he should get help from the team.
I would advice you to try to just take the lesson
If there’s something, Like widows position. Or tracers aggressiveness. Take it into acc, maybe it can improve you in some points.
Just don’t take it to personal. As others pointed out, it’s just a game and you’re supposed to enjoy games and have a good time.
Don’t forget, as a support you always are going to be kill target number 1, and everybody is comming just for you. So be prepared to get focused. Maybe you can even use it for your advantage…

If you get targeted specifically, it might mean that you have been identified as a priority target. That’s a vote of confidence, isn’t it?

If he’s the reason why the enemy team is winning I focus him and ask my team to help, if not I just don’t care and focus on something else.

Oh, remember that you’re playing a video game.
Simple, switch or keep dying. It’s not rocket science.
Switch to a hero who counters the hero who keeps killing you. For example I usually play Zarya, if the enemy team has a good Pharmercy combo going and our DPS isn’t helping at all or is unable to stop them, I’ll switch to Soldier or someone. I’m not going to carry on playing Zarya, dying over and over and getting frustrated.
Worst case scenario, if neither my team, nor my own abilities is able to stop that one hero who keeps killing me, then so be it. It’s one game, I’ll accept the loss and move on. There are better players than us out there and sometimes we just have to accept a loss, even a stomp. It happens.
