After reading this article they stated very clearly that it doesnt matter what rank you are, they use your mmr and only your mmr to match you up in games. If they drop you 2 divisions after the beginning of the season, how do you rank up if you keep winning only 50% of the games because you still fight the same skill ppl?
Another question: They also stated that they mix high skill ppl with low skill ppl in your party. Me as a supp role main, how am I supposed to rank up if they bring lower skill dps/tanks into my games where the team gets little value when enabling them? It’s ruining the supps win condition. It’s not fair that my mmr gets down because as a supp I depend on others mmr, nor it is having to carry with Moira/Baptiste instead of supporting (the main aspect of my role, it doesn’t make sense).
Im stuck in Gold1 and cant reach back to plat because of the huge differences in mmr between party members. Supp is not an easy role to rank up and even less so with this issues.
So you are telling me that I should enable a low skilled/valuable teammate even harder. That in order to get back where I was I have to be better than I was, when I reached there.
No, he said get better at the game. No wonder you’re stuck if you can’t even read a single post properly. Maybe he should have uploaded it in Tiktok format for you?
What I am discussing is about MMR, not literally how to rank up. Maybe apply your own post and get to read properly what in the OP is written instead of raging like a 13yo
Please explain how I’ve trolled here? I’ve literally just told them how to improve their MMR…
Not sure why you spend so much effort trying to discredit someone, without ever offering anything of substance to counter their advice. Just makes you look very weird.
Yeah, but the point is, if with my current skill I was able to reach plat, why do I have to get better in order to reach plat again? they still match me up with plats, and therefore I get a 50% winrate which wont let me rank up but secretly still being MMR plat.
By this logic, in order to get from gold to plat I have to play as a diamond. Will they drop me to low gold again in the next season? seems so. Will I have to climb from low gold to plat while being matched with diamonds in the next season? Will I have to play better than the diamonds in order to get from gold to plat?
That’s what I am referring to, plus the issue of getting low skilled tanks/dps that get little value from enabling them making the supp role a hard role to climb.
What if I don’t want to get better and already have enough fun in plat? if I’m a plat skilled player and only want to be plat, why do I have to continously improve in order to stay in plat? Why do I have to be matched up with ppl beyond plat to be in plat?
You don’t. You’ll get plat again by simply playing enough.
Remember, the colour of the rank badge is kind of meaningless now. Your MMR will be plat, but so will everyone else in your game. But their badges might be silver or gold. You’ll all still be plat players according to their MMR.
So, improving as a player and consistently improves your MMR. Ranks… You just need to keep winning more than you lose.
The skill of your tanks and DPS will be similar to yours (similar MMR and what not). As they explained in their update, there are so many variables MMR can’t account for, and that’s what makes OW games so varied.
If you don’t want to improve and enjoy where you are (similar to me tbf). Just keep playing and having fun. Don’t worry about your rank, don’t worry when games don’t go to plan. If you find games aren’t fun in a session, stop playing and come back another day.
Thing is, its stated in the developers blog that the matchmaking matches ppl from other skill levels into your game. That it seeks to balance between teams and not between players to alivate queue times. The lower the skill your teammate has, the lower the value you can get when enabling this teammate, lowering your own value as well.
Your MMR rises by winning games, not performing well.
Yeah, it’ll do that, especially when in a stack. But the 2 teams will always have a very similar (if not the same) average MMR.
Your MMR rises on both. Mostly skill, partially on win.
Remember, if you keep winning, you need to keep playing better as you get better and better players. If you’re skill isn’t improving, you won’t be winning that consistently. You’ll probably be much closer to a W L W L type of record. Which means MMR is working well.
Both teams might have similar MMR but not all roles have the same impact into the game. A tank diff (as they put as an example) is more impactful than only one of the supps diff.
I understand that you have to get better in order to progress, but I dont understand why do I have to get better to get where I was. And even more when I am actually playing in a plat lobbies getting 50% winrate meaning I am not worse and not better than plat.
Yes and no. Not everyone is going to play to their best level in every game. But their generalised skill level will be similar, meaning that on average it’s a balanced game.
You are still playing in exactly the same games, against the same set of people as your MMR didbt change. All that’s changed is a colourful badge that they’ve now said is basically irrelevant.
Personally, I play ranked because I like a competitive match. Now bar one game last night (where I legitimately had the worst player I think I have ever seen play the game. Something that has to be seen to be believed), that’s what I get. fun competitive matches, where if I play badly, I get stomped.
I like to play competitive for the same reason, to enjoy some sort of quality skill in games while also trying to achieve the diamond title as an medium term goal. But how the matchmaking and competitive works its just discouraging.
As it is right now, pairing ppl with different skill levels and being MMR and rank completely independent from each other makes it not fun nor rewarding enough. It’s a problem they should really look into if they don’t want to lose community. That’s why I opened this thread, to make it notice. And as far I have seen, this is an issue quite extended, so much they had to actually open up talk about it directly (they have never been so open in all these years as far I remember). and like Flats said in a recent video which I share completely, in all competitive sports you get total transparency about everything, all scores and values, but in OW2.
That’s more a perception of what’s happening, than what’s actually happen.
2 tanks have the same MMR. Ones a Hog one trick, the other is a Rein one trick… Chances are, the Rein is about to have a very bad time. But that doesn’t mean he’s less skilled. It’s just one of the many variables the MMR system doesn’t and can’t cater for.
Another game, you might have someone who’s got a mega strat for the map that the enemy just don’t see coming, or conversely, a really bad strat that gets rolled over. Doesn’t mean they are less skilled. Just that they made a mistake/played well.
Matchmaker isn’t doing that. It’s just building 2 teams to hopefully land on the most unpredictable outcome. The 50/50 chance of winning.
It’s not like something like Warzone. Where you can match people based on KD alone and be there or there abouts. There are just too many factors for it to be perfect every time.
You clearly stated it’s also about winning. You can get carried by 4 other people to win. You’re getting your words mixed up there champ. I’d think before posting more.
