How to reduce gfx clutter and amount of effects?

i’m asking you, how do you solve removing visal clutter without removing visual feedback, because blizzard sure wants to know aswell, this is not a disabled people problem, this is an overwatch problem they’ve had from the get go.

idk if you play reinhardt at all but there are points where you literally can’t see a thing because your whole screen is filled with clutter.

I don’t play Rein atm because he is garbage. But I have a good few hundred hours logged on him.

But they have done it in the past, they changed the look of shields to improve the ability to see what was going on. Polishing a few of the visual effects will go a long way to improve this.

well it’s gotten worse with more barriers, imagine a battle with double shield mirror and double sym throwing up their ultimates at the same time, it’s sure is a spectacle isn’t it.

the problem is that you need to be able to see the visual feedback, there comes a point where it’s simply just easier to pick a different game that don’t have this problem to begin with.

Then you have proven the point. It should constantly be being looked at.

The moment you accept something is fine and stop looking for improvements, you have lost. In all aspects of life.

you still haven’t offered a solution to the visual feedback clutter, i have given an option at the very least,
do not put in abilities that cause more clutter if that’s what your aiming for.

removing abilities that are visually too cluttery is an option aswell.

the question is, where do you draw the line with visual clutter? because it is a matter of feedback and gameplay balance aswell at some point.

most sane people go to a different game for a different experience, maybe a game that don’t have as much visual clutter.

theres other options besides overwatch.

I have given an idea to a solution.

Maybe just chill out a little bit. This conversation seems to have riled you more than the game going F2P (guess we will find out if that is happening this week).

Just vibe. The game is no issue to me, but I support anyone that thinks it could improve to make it a more pleasant place to be.

Anything that means more people can play without issues is fine with me. Let their skills do the talking.

it’s because you’ve railroaded the conversation to disabled people should be able to play, when that wasn’t even a question and then started pointed fingers at me that i don’t care about them painting me as a bad person.

no wonder i’m a bit riled isn’t it.

and you have yet to provide a solution to visual clutter, you just say
“tone it down”
well that doesn’t explain how you would do that does it?

which also makes me steamed because i don’t like lofty answers that don’t explain or solve anything.

but yeah, don’t bother apologizing i’m more interested in solutions and if you have one, i want to hear it.

if you don’t have a practical solution in mind i don’t see why i should stick around if all you’re gonna do is talk about other things.

Set graphics quality to low, or at least “effects detail” to low.

Although Blizz seems to show more and more effects even on low with each patch.

If you are riled by someone evolving the conversation to include other subjects that could also be covered by this issue. Then that is on you. Especially if you are going to create some railroading argument.

“there is too much clutter”
“i agree, a solution to this will also be good for disability access”.

Hardly railroading.

Maybe just take a deep breath and chill.

You shouldn’t get so bothered by things you read. I have offered a solution. You not liking it is, again, on you.

If you think the forums, especially EU, is about solutions then you’ve missed the point. Like any dev looks at the forum for ideas.

yeah i claimed people with disabilities shouldn’t play,

i totally said that.

ok let’s see what that suggestion was.

ok, doesn’t really have much to do with visual clutter though, good idea none the less.
what about visual clutter?

not really saying how we should clean up the clutter yet but ok.

still not explaining how.

where did you actually give a concrete solution to fixing it?

let’s see the things i’ve actually said that could remove clutter.

actual thing you can do right now for those unaware.

another suggestion you can do to lower visual clutter.

they could do this but this is pushing game balance, still a solution though.

not what i’m really doing but spreading ideas is a good idea and if the idea is good enough it might reach them, maybe not through this forum but maybe someone who mentions it to somebody else and it starts rolling somewhere.

but what i was actually doing was trying to keep people on topic to help OP if they had any solutions to their problem.
as far as i know the game is cluttery no matter what, i didn’t say blizzard shouldn’t do anything about it, but if they were they should be careful as it doubles as visual feedback aswell.

so keep on keeping on, you’re free to defend yourself from my accusation that you’re railroading the conversation into things that doesn’t concern OP.
but yet i’ve seen a solution that actually helps OP right here and now.

It is funny to watch you devolve into full Imposter/AllMight.

I am spreading ideas. I can’t be bothered to deep dive into how to solve it. It won’t get read by a dev, so isn’t worth my time. I’ll just play the game and enjoy it.

But reducing the barrier for entry is always a good idea, so we can have more happy peeps to play with.

If that means cleaning it up, or making more customisation settings, or making the game free it doesn’t effect me. Just as long as more people come and play.

i just summed up what you’ve contributed to the OP.
they were here for help.

you didn’t come to help them directly, you came to spread ideas, it’s a nice thing to say, but as you’ve clearly pointed out yourself, devs aren’t gonna read it but good ideas are still valuable hence why i said you should make your own topic about it discussing it and not derail this topic.

i’m just stating the situation as is, OP can’t do much more on their own as i know about it, that’s why i was asking you if you had something to contribute to help OP.

but still the fact remains the game is cluttery none the less and the other solution i had was try to find a different game that don’t have this much clutter and then you argued that i was looking down on disabled people for offering solutions that does mean you can play a game with less clutter right here and now.

and i stated my case that i want well for disabled people but there is things devs can do but it can impact the game as a whole if not handled carefully.

i haven’t attacked you yet though, just tried to steer you back onto topic, sure my feelings have been bruised because i do care about disabled people and saying that i’m not riles me up.

you can antagonize me all you want for trying to keep the topic at hand my main priority and help the person calling for help is more what i am concerned about.

but yeah call me what you want but please try to help OP if you can in the process.

any ideas they can try? is there something that you do personally to limit clutter that you can offer?

Well I suggested an idea for sensory cluttler (which covers audio and visual). Volumes and tweaking the visual appearances of things.

After that, I can’t be bothered to go deeper, if a dev reads (they won’t) they can decide what is needed/can be done.

But you just got mad, so I got bored of trying. No point dealing with angry people. They just become irrational and make weird claims. (hence people getting toxic in game, making bold statements about other players)/.

you know what, i’m not gonna bother, you don’t have a solution for OP it seems, no point in pressing the matter.

i told you why i got riled up and that reason is completely reasonable to get riled up over, don’t know why you keep pushing on that though trying to equate me to a toxic person or irrational when i think i’ve been quite civil and held together despite it all.

i’ve yet to slander you or anybody else in anyway and i think my hands are clean.
if you feel i have done you wrong, you’re free to tell me so i can apologize properly.

if there’s nothing then this is it for this discussion i suppose?

imagine being a whiny deranker turd and then getting outraged over gold gameplay that you deliberately descended into. Try dropping further down to bronze maybe you’ll find the skill and player quality you look for.

Loving the elitism. Forgetting that most people don’t actually care and just play games to have fun.

1sr, 4700sr, means nothing. Just a game kid. Chill out.

where does this leave you, turning a valid thread into a spam fest of your hurt feelings.
Why u do hav to be mad?

Gold is average, so no issues with that at all. you are same “trash” by that very standard.

To be fair. I’d rather be “trash” at a video game, than be like him.

A thread about reducing visual clutter that has no info on actually reducing visual clutter lol

As an old Quake3 player, reducing visual clutter was a must. After a few tweaks, the game looked like this…

https://www.excessiveplus.net/files/forum/2012/11/shot0006.jpg

and it helped immensely when it came to competitive play because the things which stand out the most are your bright enemies, nothing else. I’m not sure if I would do this to Overwatch if the options were there. I just don’t care enough about it like I did back with Q3 when I had my own UK clan of mates and we would compete in rocket arena EU leagues, back then we all had to do it to get any slight advantage.

I paid hard money for my 1080ti a few years ago so I play Overwatch on the max visual settings just because I like the game to look nice and see it in it’s best light. Those picmip competitive days just don’t apply to OW. Maybe if I was an OW pro and was paid to play like in OWL or something then sure, I’d turn everything down and try to make the game look as bland and basic as possible.

I’m glad they’re aware of visual clutter.
