How to run Overwatch at 300fps

Hello! A bit of backstory; Last year I upgraded my computer and I was immensely disappointed by the performance I got from it, as I had spent a lot of money and handpicked certain components to boost my Overwatch & Streaming performance. Today marks the day I finally achieved it, through endless sifting of threads and posts from others, also filtering unnecessary comments like:

  • “The human eye can’t see more than 30fps”
  • “144fps is enough”
  • “240hz monitor won’t make you better”
    and more.

Side Info:

  • This is for those who want to reduce their input lag to the bare minimum, The game won’t look as good but we don’t mind that right?
  • Some of the stuff you need to do are assuming you’re using a Nvidia GPU
  • Overwatch requires you to have somewhat of a beast to push a bunch of frames out.
  • I didn’t do all the work in figuring this out, but I will try to credit the ones who did, I’m just summarising what I found

Hardware Requirements

Now, let’s get started with the hardware requirements. It couldn’t be better said than how mommy EeveeA said it:

“Overwatch is a very single-thread heavy (don’t read “not multi-threaded” ) so CPU IPC (processor instructions per clock), cpu clock speed and memory clock speed are very important to run overwatch, regardless of your graphics settings.” - EeveeA. | Link to original tweet here

She also did sum up the minimum requirements for 300fps in another post https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MXc7NQ, if you don’t have atleast something close to this or better then you won’t be able to achieve 300fps, but I’m sure some of the tips will help increase your FPS.

  • CPU = Intel - Core i5-9600K 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
  • RAM = G.Skill - Trident Z 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory
I have 3200mhz RAM but I have a more powerful CPU so they add eachother up.

Nvidia Control Panel Settings

Now let’s get to the NVIDIA settings, I’m sorry AMD users, there’s probably something similar you can do :stuck_out_tongue:

  1. Go into Nvidia Control Panel (right click desktop)
  2. Adjust image settings with preview
  3. “Use my preference emphasizing:” Performance
  4. Manage 3D settings:

Other tips:

  • Running all Overwatch settings at low & off, | Link 1
  • Disable Hardware Acceleration on Discord / Google Chrome / BattleNet / Spotify.
  • Allocate Virtual Memory on your SSD | Link 2
  • Run this script at Link 3 and restart computer so the game runs in “high priority” from the moment you start it.
  • Activate all your processors at boot | -KingOfGore| Link 4
  • Run the game from the Overwatch.exe file (located where you installed the game) - Kminito | Link 5

I’m not allowed to post links so i summarised some of them here:

Disclaimer I’m no genius to why certain things work, just relaying info.

If you have more tips I can add please let me know.

Thank you for reading and I hope this helps you get more FPS, It did for me
Now go push the payload. - SnorrLaxZ
