I don’t have much of an issue with one-tricks most of the time. The only problem comes when they can’t be effective, but still refuse to switch off.
I think the reality is, this is a problem for competitive, when someone refusing to switch off can cost you the game.
So, what about diminished returns? Play the same hero without switching, and over time (maybe 5 games in a row) your SR gains start to fall off. That’s a really basic way about it, but it discourages people playing one hero in a game that requires knowledge of multiple heroes.
As good an idea as that sounds but what if they play the same hero and they do exceedingly well? Based on that it happened to be the best character to play at the time for the comp and it just happened to be 5 times in a row?
Sorry guys, I need to switch off of Mercy for this game coss I’ve played her too often recently.
Yea, I know this map is great for her and our comp synergies with her, but I really need that sweet-sweet SR gain. Don’t blame me, blame that MrGarrison guy on the forums. It was his idea!
This is already a thing, its not public knowledge there is no blue post about it but i can confirm this does happen, while my friend playing flex gets 23-28 points per win, i get 21-25 even when i have 3+gold medals (reason im saying this is because you get more SR by having more medals). I have been seeing this for a couple of seasons now. This is actually a thing. I mainly play hanzo like 10hours hanzo 1-2 hours flex and my hanzo games give me the amount of sr mentioned above as opposed to what my friend gets also mentioned above.
Yes, they can. But when things do not work you can’t just bang your head against the wall. And based on your profile you know this. When things do not work you switch. But then there is, for example, widow against Winston and rein. Totally denied every time but will still play that. U are basically 6vs5 at that point
She was about 3.3 when i was 3.1 but this has been happening for a handful of seasons so i would say we saw every scenario when we were close sr, when i had more, when she had more. This doesnt happen in every match ever but it happens more than it doesnt happen.
I doubt this would be implemented because it limits who people can play and blizzard has said in the past that they don’t want to dictate what hero you can play. It could also affect people who aren’t even one tricks. Like, say you’re in a six stack and you are the only one who can play Reinhardt and your team needs a Reinhardt, so you would play 5 games and then you would get punished just for playing Rein.
And also; that kind of OTP, who doesn’t switch when shut down, and plays a hero that often DO, will automatically get less SR and have a lower rank than others. Because they will win fewer matches because of it.
