So, is DVA CCed by her ult? Is her ult random? Can her ult kill her? No, it is none of those things, whereas it is all of that for Pharah. Actually, DVA was one of the character that could be killed by her own ult. And Tracer. And Junkrat. Not anymore. And Mccree, can cancel his 50-years ult anytime.
To summarize: it feels like Pharah, as opposed to others mentioned, is bound to design rules from the early OW versions, not the current ones.
How did you miss the point so spectacularly? Some ults have drawbacks meaning you have to actually think before using it. That can mean drawing out CC before ulting, focusing healing on the ulting hero or maybe just putting a Zarya bubble on them.
Pharahs ult is one of the strongest in the game when it comes to the versatility of the damage output which logically has to bring those aforementioned drawbacks with itself. If you compare it to McCree though, she puts out damage during the ult so it’s much harder to take a breath and shoot her down.
Ultimately (ha!) it boils down to this: are you smart enough to use her ult properly? If you are, you can get value. If you’re not, you get blown up - which holds true for pretty much every other ult. If you throw a D.Va-bomb into a bad spot while swarmed by enemies, you die and waste your ult. If you dead-eye without getting a nice flanking spot, you will just get shot down. If you whole-hog against a Genji with deflect up or while being exposed, you just die without dealing a lot of damage. If you RIP-tire when the enemy knows where it’s coming from, it’ll just get shot down while you as Junk get killed because you’re immobile. If you throw a blizzard into D.Va, you get nothing out of it. If you earthshatter while low on health you are very exposed and might just die without getting it off. If you don’t know in which context an ult is useful, you will get punished for it. Do some ults have a larger context than others? Sure. Would be boring otherwise. If you want a “press one button to win everything” mechanic, you’ve chosen the wrong game.
