I hear you. This game is destined (or aimed) to be toxic in general:
-
Unbalanced matchmaking from Unranked to Gold
About 85% of the games are “Stomp or be stomped” (a bit less in competitive). Maybe a handful games per week are really balanced in terms of skill and determination of the teams.
-
Leaver penalties
In Unranked you should be free to leave during hero selection, no question asked, no penalties. As a seasoned player you got a pretty good expertise of what team constellation on which maps are pretty much DOOMed (hint, hint) to fail. Sure, there is a slim chance, the players bring the necessary skill their selected high-skill heroes demand. Instead you’re taken hostage to a very bad match. Yes, people have to learn, but why they don’t start in FFA DM to get familiar with their hero (oh right, they get vaporized).
-
Communication is impolite in general
By that I mean, more than 50% of matches are accompanied by insults, mutual blaming etc. (usually in the losing team only). That gives you a wrong impression of what is acceptable and what’s not. While you might not report any insults or nagging, others report EVERY little BS.
-
Report System sucks bigtime
It’s very prone to exploitation (reports by player groups), warnings come way too late, warnings AND suspension notes are ultra vague (as are the copy & paste BS answers by the support team). If you want a clean shooter, disable communication altogether and leave it to Discord & Co. Less than half the matches have civilized communication. I’d be busy reporting all day long, if I’d take every insult/remark to heart.
-
Penalties should be based on the offense AND be explicitly justified
I repeatedly asked for the exact and specific reason of my suspension and get the same copy & pasted BS by a super-lazy support. Code of conduct, bla bla, link. Blabla, new authenticator, blabla, watching YT while waiting for the end of my average handling time. Job well done. Next.
I still have no no idea what exactly was over the top. If it was communication, why not suspend communication? If it was something else or several things why don’t you tell? I’ve spent about 3000€ on Blizzard products over the years, I expect a bit more effort for that money. No special treatment but at least a clear answer (feel free to publicly shame me here).

Shop Access locked during suspension:
You can’t even use the shop while suspended. Why? It’s cosmetic items, you paid money for the coins and you’re denied using them? (browser game shop is locked too).
As frequent random group player in OW2, your patience is heavily tested. The more you play, the higher the chance, you get pissed off or offend somebody, be it by snappy comments or playstyle. The amount of perfectly fine matches or the percentage of possible misbehaviour DOES NOT count, nor does your player reputation weigh in. You have ZERO insight into your “Santa’s naughty list”.
In my personal & subjective opinion, I did nothing worth 1 month of suspension, especially when they don’t tell me the offense or the EXACT play rules.
This morning, I had 2 games: 1 Unranked, 1 Competitive. In Unranked, I played reaper on King’s Row and we were about to lose. Ultimate was ready, but i was under 40 hp (instant death by turret was a hazard). I had highground, got in line of sight of the healers and used comm command for healing. Didn’t get one. Didn’t use ultimate in time. Lost (maybe anyway). Said “Damn it. One heal.” So harsh.
Competitive game was good teamplay. On our attack phase in Gibraltar, we struggled with heavy enemy defense after 1st checkpoint. DPS asked me for Orisa (was tank), did so and I asked for a reaper in return, he did so too. We were able to break the enemy line with flank attack and forced push and kept the momentum to the win. No team conflict whatsoever.
After that I went for Christmas shopping and when I returned home, I found my account suspended. During my vacation, I played hundreds of games, staying civilized most of the time, my season reputation peaked at level 4 (until an afk leave at round start to answer the doorbell and accept a delivery).
If unpunished, I’d probably leave 50-60% of Unranked games during hero selection and save me a lot of stress. Instead I endure the upcoming disaster and sometimes fall prone to giving my salty opinion (we German prefer direct communication over faked politeness). I do NOT mind to lose, but I do mind the circumstances.
When both teams give their very best to the end and fight minutes over a spot or a very close and hard result, that’s when Overwatch 2 is best and shines. Even if you lose, it doesn’t matter. It was a good game. Many matches are not…
